OUR TOURISTS VISIT ITALY; FIND
ONE REALLY DECENT ROYAL FAMILY
(The Daily Light Tour of the World.)
ROME Italy April I.—ltaly is a
land of marvels—mostly old marvels
that everybody has seen or read about.
The coliseum the Pantheon the ruins
of Pompeii St. Peter’s—these and
many other things like them are mar-
vels that everybody knows about. But
Italy can also boast a new marvel
that few folk know much about
namely a royal household thoroughly
democratic and absolutely free from
taint of scandal.
That's probably more than can be
said of any other of the great royal
households of the world. So let’s
talk about the family of King Vic-
tor Emmanuel and let the threadbare
Italian marvels pass.
In the first place the royal family
of Italy can boast a real royal love
HARD FOUGHT
BATTLE OVEH;
MS A DRAW
(BY THE ASSOCIATED PRESS.)
EL PASO. Tex. April I.—The
bloodiest and most Important battle
of the Mexican insurrection thus far in
the state of Sonora is ended after two
days of stubborn fighting which began
Monday near the towns of Ure and
San Rafael.
Although the insurrectos outnum-
bered the federal forces their am-
munition became exhausted in the
continued engagement while the fed-
erals were able to obtain reinforce-
ments and additional ammunition
frem Hermosillo and the insurrectos
were compelled to abandon the fight.
Although the loss on both sides was
heavy reports of the killed and
wounded have been greatly exagger-
ated and it is now known that not
more than 100 were killed on both
sides.
The reports that the federate
gained a decisive victory in the first
day’s fighting which report was is-
sued by Mexican authorities have
been denied by Ynail advices from
Hermosillo. The federal wounded
have been brought tb Hermosillo. The
movements of the insurrecto force
after the battle are unknown. A rumr.r
that they had captured the town of
San Benito has been officially denied
by Governor Cubillas at Hermosillo
who says there was no fight in the
town of Ures although the engage-
ment took place near there. The re-
port that Hermosillo is threatened by
an insurrecto force also is yuncon-
flrmed.
Persistent rumors are still current
that Juarez will be attacked soon al-
though there is little to substantiate
th«{n. Numerous bands of insurrec-
tos have crossed the border near El
Paso from the American side.

The attempt at robbery of the vault
proved a failure.
One more charge of nitro glycerine j
would have given the men an an-1

after the first explosion. Upon what is]
claimed by the police to be a confes- ]

KING VICTOR EMANUEL. QUEEN HELENA AND THEIR YOUNGSTERS
affair. Not a bogus ma Ie to-order
love affair lilte that cf the present
king and queen of Spain but a gen-
uine one.
When the king was the prince of
Naples—before his father was assas-
sinated —he met an obscure but beau-
tiful Montenegrin princess. It wus
love at first sight and the prlmo mar-
ried the princess within a year in
spite of the opposition of those who
would have had the prince make an
alliance with sente more powerful
house than that of the little comic
opera kingdom of Montenegro.
The love affair has been going on
ever since. King Victor and Queen
Helena are devoted to each other
and to their four beautiful children.
Furthermore thoso royel folk are
really democratic tn their tastes. They

Prl vtiege.
William F. Bully manager of the l
'Guide Post Adverttelnu company has
made a proposition to the county com-!
miscloners to put up 500 guide posts
nil al<.ng the county roads keep them 1
In repair for a period of five years. ;
and put up a good bond to do so if:
the county commissioners will grant
him the right to put advertising on
them- The proposition is now receiv-
ing tlte consideration of the commis-
sioners.
Mr. Holly says the guide posts will
be of iron with iron arms anil the
whole sunk In a concrete bed. This!
will preclude the usual fate of coun- ]
try road sign posts which te that they
are shot to pieces or torn down to j
tn aRo camp fires. A period of ninety I
days from the signing of the con- 1
tract is wanted In which the neces-1
nary advertising is to be secured. Then ]
the promoter will put up such a bond]
as the county may require.
