ASHLAND, Ore., Feb. 8. — The ralfroad
from Grant’s Pass to Roseburg is reported
one continuation of slides. Streanis all
over southern Oregon are reported as high
if not higher than in 1801. A report
reached here Thursday night from filen-
dale of an immense slide on the railroad
half a mile south of the West Fork in
Crow Creek Canyon. The slide came
from a high mountain down to the bottom

feet, covering the track and filling the

ly stated in the newspapers that the Brit-
ish and dominion governments are en-
couraging Baron Helsh’s scheme for bring-
ing some hundreds of thousands of Rus-
sian Jews into the northwest; that the
baron will spend 50,000,000 frames in the
project; that London would be the center
of the movement, and that batches of 500
families will come at a time The domin-

CHICAGO, III, Feb. 5.—A wild tram
on the Illinois Central railway ran into
the rear end of a stock train near Pectone,
III., yesterday morning, smashing the
caboose into kindling wood and seriously
injuring five stock men who were in it.
Three of them are believed to, be fatally
injured.
Released by a Mob.
LExiGTON, Miss., Feb. 7.—Wednes-
day night an armed mob took possession
of the jail and liberated Eugene Story,
who had been convicted of murder and
sentenced to be hanged. The case was on
appeal. Other prisoners were released at
