When: 7:30 p.m. Friday at Sherman’s Bearcat Stadium.
Tickets: Reserved $6, General Admission $5, student tickets $3.
Radio: None.
Opponent: Sherman picked up its first District 6-5A win of the
season last week in beating The Colony, 20-17. Sherman is another
high-powered offense in the district with running back DeWayne Jones
(107 carries, 655 yards) and the passing combination of quarterback
Quinton Pelley (57-97-3 — 947 yards) and wideout Hunter Smith (24
catches, 613 yards).
Top opposing players: QB Quinton Pelley, RB DeWayne Jones,
WR Hunter Smith, WR Michael Ohnemiller, WR John Brinkley, OT
Jason Clark, OT Tim Deater, DT Ellis Cotton, LB Marque Owens, SS
Paul Thompson, FS Michael Shannon, LB Casey Urquhart.
Analysis: Sherman barely escaped with a win over The Colony and
that may bode well for Allen, especially since tailback Calvin Garrett is
expected back this week after having tests run on his injured right knee.
That puts everyone on the Allen offense back in their normal position,
plus gives Garrett a week to heal. The Eagles defense will again be
tested by the running of Jones, the catching of Smith and the running
and throwing of Pelley. The Allen defense, however, did a good job
against two similar offenses in Denton and Marcus. It will take yet
another for the Eagles to come out victorious.
Prediction: Allen 14, Sherman 13.

day,” Sievert said. “A loss would
have dampened our spirits going in,
but we’re able to stay up and hope-
fully it will carry over from' Friday.
We’ve beaten them before so we
know we can do it as long as we play
well and stay on top. We know,
though, it won’t be easy.
Grapevine has a very physical
team that pounds the ball well, but

Duncanville (Relays).”
Although the cross country run-
ners team-wise have finished vir-
tually in the same place every meet
while chasing District 6-5A favorite
Marcus, the Eagles have improved
each week and feel confident about
finishing second when the district
meet rolls around later this month.
"We missed Matt Allen for a cou-
ple of weeks with a twisted ankle,
but he’s back and going strong as are
the rest of the varsity boys,” Green
said. “Crystal is doing fine and is
steady each meet, and the freshman
girls are coming on and doing well. It
will be a tight race for second place,
but we think we have a good shot at
it.”
