Crockett won the East Zone
with a 10-0 record and was 14-

season ended. > •

. will counter with either Jay
Suchadoll, a big, senior right-
hander with a 7-1 record, or
Joe Herzik, a senior right-

Both teams’ pitching staffs
are well-rested, although th-

what he’s going to try to do
in any situation,” Marshall
said. “He was trying to throw
a slider in and jam me on the
w ist, but it stayed out on the
plate. If he got the pitch where
he wanted it, he might have
had me but he made the mis-
take and I capitalized on it.”
The hit gave.the Mets their
12th win in their last 14games.
The Mets were nursing a
3-1 lead in the sixth when
Ken Boswell and Jerry Grote
led off with singles. After
loser Larry Dierker, now5-1,
retired the next two batters,
1 he walked Bud Harrelson and
Tim Foli to force in a run.
Culver then replaced Dierker
and Marshall slammed hisl-l
pitch for the second grand
slam of his career.
Ryan, now 4-0, pitched his
first complete game of the
. season but had his usual trou-
bles with control. Ryan hit one

up a hit until Roger Metzger

he too is expected to play.
Catcher Duane Houston, who
missed the last game with a
sore throwing arm, is still bo-
thered somewhat and hisplay-
ing status is questionable. If
the hard-hitting junior back-
stop is unable to start, the
Cubs will go with the same
lineup they used last Thurs-
day, which was shortstop Way-
ne Kluck catching, second
baseman Kemper moving to
short and sophomore Edwin
Morrow taking over at second.
