contracts were signed this week for
oil and gas testa asar Hereford, and
at least three or four other deals
are just about ready to be closed.

Judge John P. Slaton and asso-
clates have just signed a contract
with Davidson A Taylor, of Chicago
and Amarillo, to drill a tost well
in Block K-8, a few miles west of
Hereford. It calls for a test 3600
feet deep if necessary, and work on
the derrick and other preparations
are to begin within 20 days, and be
pushed to completion of the well
A forfeit of $4,000 to to be posted
in Ue First National Bank here be-
fore September- 1, 1926.. The com:
pany has already called for abstracts
on the land in Uto block, and Judge
Sinton to urging the farmers to
help rush the deal.

rett have closed a deal on the Wil-
kinson-Barrett block, 18 miles north
east of Hereford, with Vernon Du:
mas, representing the Apex Oil Cor-
poration of California, for a test
well to go 3600 foot, unless oil or
gaa to found In paying quantities
at a lesser depth. The well is to be
spudded in within 90 days, but Mr.
Barrett states that the company

Barrett, and will be known as “Bar-
rett's Hill Billie No. 1."
The Dixie plans to deepen its No.
1 Hughes end No. 1 Burleson In
Upton county. The former to now
2,284 feet deep with the top of the
pny at 2,265 feet. It to to be drilled
to 2,265 feet. Present production la
$50 barrels daily. Ths No. 1 Bur-
leson has been a small producer, but
will be deepened to increase pro-
duction. It is rigged up to drill and
the pump equipment dismantled, but
operations are not to start until
more pipe line capacity to available.
In Crane county, the Gulf Pro-
duction Company swabbed 171 bar-
rels Wednesday from its No. I Me-
Elroy, the Gulf’s second test In that
area, and has orders to go to 2,802
feet before further drilling to
stopped. The test Thursday stood
at 2,776 feet. Top of the line was
found at 2.660 feet in the same com-
pany’s No. 2 Crier.McElroy, and cas-
ng was being set at. 2,670 feet.
Gulfs No. A-5 Powell in northern
Crockett county has a hole full of
oil at 5.575 feet and tubing and rods
are being run to put the new well
on the pump.

The Buttram Petroleum Company’s
Cullers No. 1 Samuel Chiras survey,
abstract 930, is flowing 130 barrels
dally by 25 minute heads. Prepara-
tions ars being made to put this
well on the pump with expectations
of its making 200 barrels daily.

Efforts are being made to bring this
well In as a good producer.
Several big companies have their
scouts and geologists at work in
all sections of the county.
