UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
JAMES WN. THOMPSON, OF CROCKETT, TEXAS.
GAME-BOARD.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 229,206, dated June 22, 1880.
Appncation filed January 14, 1880.To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, JAmES W. THOMPSON,
of Crockett, in the county of Honston and
State of Texas, have invented a new and val-
5 able Improvement in Game-Boards; and I
do hereby declare that the following is a full,
clear, and exact description of the construe-
tion and operation of the same, reference being
had to the annexed drawings, making a part
to of this specification, and to the letters and fig-
ures of reference marked thereon.
Figure 1 of the drawings is a representation
of a top view of my improved game-board.
Fig. 2 is a longitudinal section of the same,
i5 and Fig. 3 is a longitudinal section.
This invention has relation to games to be
played on bowling-alleys or boards with balls;
and it consists in a game-board having a trough
at its head and squared apertures near said
20 head, and numbered cubical blocks adapted
to be revolved in said apertures, as hereinafter
shown and described.
In the accompanying drawings, the letter A
designates the alley-floor, having a trough, B,
25 at the head, and in front of the same a num-
ber of square recesses or holes, C, which may
be preferably ten in number, and arranged in
the form of a triangle, in four successive rows,
decreasing by one until the single aperture at
30 the apex is formed. In each of these holes or
apertures is transversely pivoted, on bearings
d, a cubical block, D, neatly fitting the aper-
ture, but turning freely on its pivotal axis
therein.
35 When the blocks are turned square theirupper faces will be flush with the alley-surface,
or nearly so, and when a corner is up it will
project above the surface of the alley-floor.
In the illustration the four blocks nearest the
trough are each numbered on three sides with 40
the number 10, and on the fourth side a cipher
is placed. In the next row of three each block
is numbered 8 on three sides, having a cipher
on the fourth side. The next two blocks are
numbered 5 on three sides, each with a cipher 45
on the fourth side; and the last block at the
angle is numbered 15 on three sides, having
also a cipher on the fourth side.
Returning-troughs may be made on the alley
sides, or a way, F, may be made below the 50
alley-floor, to return the playing-balls, which
are rolled over the blocks and turn them in
passing, thereby exposing numbers which
score the player toward game or ciphers.
Having described this invention, what I 55
claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent,
is-
The game-board herein described, having
the trough B at its head and the squared aper-
tures C near said head, and the numbered 60o
cubical blocks D, adapted to revolve in said
apertures, as described and shown.
In testimony that I claim the above I have
hereunto subscribed my name in the presence
of two witnesses.
JAMES WIITEFORD THOMPSON.
