Kingman’s Homer Leads Mets By LA
and despite a healthy RBI figure of 50, Kingman is season came with one out in the 14th inning and
not happy with his season He had hoped for more
consistency than just a .240 batting average, as
well as fewer strikeouts.
"I have a good day and then I have a bad day."
Kingman said. “1 would rather be mediocre. I
have been having some rather bad days lately."
Los Angeles reliever Charlie Hough will
remember Thursday night's blast for a while
"It was a bad pitch, right in the zone where he
wanted it, " said the knucklebailer “It had no spin
on it and it was straight. It was a knuckler."
In the only other National League game, the
Philadelphia Phillies nipped the San Francisco
Giants 3-2.

One hit doesn't end a slump, but in the case of
Dave Kingman, it usually ends a ballgame
Kingman either strikes out or hits it out — and
Thursday night, it was the latter
“I’m still swinging at bad pitches, I’m still in a
slump," Kingman insisted despite a 14th-inning
home run that led the New York Mets to a 1-0 vic-
tory over the Los Angeles Dodgers
Kingman’s homer was his 23rd of the season, but
only his first at home since May 28.
"I feel less pressure on the road,” said
Kingman, who hit his last seven shots away from
Shea Stadium. "These last few days, I've been
wishing we’d been on the road."
Despite leading the major leagues in home runs
landed in the left field bullpen Skip Lockwood, 3-2,
was the winner in relief of Craig Swan. For Hough,
it was his second loss against seven victories
Swan pitched the first 10 innings for New York,
allowing only three base runners on three singles,
the total of Dodger hits for the evening. He struck
out eight Don Sutton, the Los Angeles starter,
worked the first nine innings, permitting six hits
and walking two.

Dave Cash's bases-loaded sacrifice fly in the
ninth inning carried Philadelphia over San
Francisco. Cash's game-winning RBI scored
Garry Maddox with the winning run for relief
pitcher Gene Garber, 1-1.

Broncos Play
For League Lead
The lead in the 1976 Connie Mack baseball race could be
decided when two undefeated teams in district play. Denton
and McKinney, square off in a doubleheader at 6 pm.
Saturday
Both teams sport 44records in Mack play this season, with
doubleheader victories over Sherman and Gainesville
credited to each.
Season-wise, the Broncos are 7-1 including district play,
while McKinney is 6-4, one of those losses being at the hands
of Denton’s American Legion Post 71 Wednesday.
But the Broncos won’t have an easy time trying to sweep
the series, since McKinney will use All-District 13-4A hurler
Johnny Crocker from R L Turner for at least one game
In addition, Skip Mills and Scott Crabtree are available for
pitching chores, and both should be in peak form since
neither looked especially impressive against the 1 st.
For the Broncos' part, Denton coach Ronnie Roberts is
having to spread his pitching talent a little thinner to take
care of a busy weekend
Denton will host Thomas Jefferson in still another
doubleheader at 2 p.m. Sunday. With four games in two days,
the Bronco pitching staff of Robbie McCollum, Mark Ford,
Marty Green and Terry Botts is likely to see a lot of action
And if Denton's bats keep expressing the wishes of hitters
Byrle Roberts, Craig Brown, Andy Kerestine and Brant
Bomar, the Broncos should give McKinney some problems
