Graham Keeps
The News Going,
Fred Graham travel agent, promoter, script writer
statistician and last but not least sports information
director of North Texas State
Graham, a 1957 graduate of NT is the only sports in-
formation director the school has had Before he started in
1959, he spent a couple of seasons reporting highschool sports
for Texas newspapers.
Mill N HE STARTED at NT he worked out of the Public
Information Office Later he moved to the football offices a*
North Texas teams grew in stature
He s outspoken on the issues confronting sports today, but
he manages to keep his enthusiasm controlled He doesn’t
pump North Texas up to be something it isn’t
ONE OF GRAHAM’S favorite remembrances is Joe
Greene of the Pittsburgh Steelers He didn’t wr,te a single
promo- story on Greene who became NT’s first consensus
AllAmerica %
Graham has survived three coaching changes Primarily-
because he s adaptable, he accepts changes And, he’s good
at his job - checks everything himself for accuracy
And there have been other changes at the school, including
the nickname addition Mean Green - as dubbed by his wife
But Graham has remained constant both in his support of
NT and his journalistic approach to the job
