Safety tips for trick-or-treating
Recent Halloween experiences have
taught many that some treats can be
fatal. The emergency room staff at
Westgate Hospital and Medical
Center urges all parents to follow
these safety precautions when their
children go trick-or-treating.
—Accompany your children and
know where and from whom they are
receiving goodies
—Caution your children not to eat
treats until you have inspected them
—Discard any candy that is not pre-
wrapped
—Call your physician or the
Westgate or Flow Hospital emergency
rooms immediately if your child
shows symptoms of distress after
eating a treat; i.e., nausea, diarrhea.
dizziness or other unusual behavior
—If you suspect your child has
eaten contaminated food, bring that
food with you to the physician or the
emergency room
The Westgate Hospital emergency
room has the use of a poison index
which is updated every three months.
This provides the emergency room
with information about poisons and
the recommended emergency
treatment.
Mark these emergency numbers in
your phone book — Westgate
emergency room — 387-8313, am-
bulance — 566-8111, Flow Memorial
Hospital — 387-5861.
