UR FIRST WEEK’S BUSINESS was more
than satisfactory. Our receipts almost doubled
the amount which would have been satisfac-
tory to us for the first week’s business. q 3792 rep.

resents the number of customers who made pur-
chases in our store the first week we were open for
business. Scores of customers who were the first to
make purchases from us are coming back expressing
themselves as being perfectly satisfied with the char-
acter of merchandise they bought from us and more
than pleased with the price they paid. It is a very
common expression to hear some customer say in our
store: “Nothing like it has ever been in Wichita Falls
‘ before." 9 Come to our store every day; come see
-the new things as they arrive—there will be some-
thing to interest you every visit. : :

FLORENCE FAIRBANKS
Young High-Roller on’ Trial.
Baltimore, Md., May 17.—Willaim F.
Downs, former stock clerk in the citr
registers office, was placed on trial
today, charged with the larceny of
targe name of money from the city. A
crowded court room gave evidence of
the great amount of public Intervet
manifested in the case. Few persona
in Baltimore were better known than
young Downs, who comes of a good
family and for several years had oc-
cupied a responsible position in the
city offices. His downfall waa the di-
rect result of his extravagant mode of
living. . 2
On a salary of $1500 a year young
Downs for several years past lived at
a pace, that only a millionaire could
follow without going bankrupt. It is.
said that on more than one occasion
he spent in a single night an amount
nearly equal to his year's salary. He
kept up an extravagant establishment
and maintained a stable of fast horses.
He was known as the beat dressed
man in Baltimore and when his rooms
were searched after hia arrest his
wardrobe was found to contain forty
suits of clothes of the most expensive
make. One of his notable escapades
was the taking of an entire troup of
chorus girls to New York for a good
time. The party traveled in a special
car and during a week's frolic on the
Great White Way of the metropolis all
of the bills were paid by Downs.
