the Floral club has had was with Mrs.
J F. Reed at the Argyle hotel on last
Tuesday.
On account of the president being
out of town the vice president, Mrs.
Reed, conducted the meeting and in
such a way as to make each member
feel free and at liberty to discuss each
topic presented.
"How to Beautify Our Back Yard"
was dwelt on at length. Many plans,
means and ways were given for trans-
formin* one’s neglected back yard into
—well, you could say a pleasant place,
indeed.
The second topic, "Our State Flow,
er and the flowers natural to Texas
Soil" was discussed in such a wayas
to make each lady present feel that
she bad a happy privilege in having
her home in this great State and to
cultivate the flower of the same—the
"blue bonnet." Roll call was answer-
ed by giving current events of the
present day. The pleasure of the af-
ternoon was greatly increased by the
presence of Mesdames Gohlke and To-
land.
A delicious course of ices wss serv-
ed by the hostess, assisted by Mrs.
Pennington.
The club will meet with Mrs. Ed

Thursday afternoon, May 20th, and
great interest was shown by a splendid

order, by devotions! exercises, then
after business wss finished, some In-
teresting readings and talks on the
work were enjoyed.
The union is gaining in number, also
interest, and we sincerely hope that
it will continue so until every Chris-

The Thimble Club of the Episcopal
church meets each Thursday at 2:30 p.
m. with Mrs. Johnston at the rectory.
The members of the Woman's Guild
and all the ladies of the parish are cor-
dially invited. A full representation is
earnestly desired.
The Philathea Class Social.
The members of Philathea Class of
the Baptist church were pleasantly en-
tertained last night with a social at
the home of Miss Imogene Brown. Mu-
sic was enjoyed and games were play-
ed, after wrich refreshments of ice
cream and cake were served. About
thirty young people were present, In-
cluding the members of the clans and
their friends.
Surprise Party for Miss Cecil.
Mine Frankie Ceell wss the recipient
, of a delightful suprise party at her
, home last evening. The party was
given by Miss Edith Walkup. Games
, both Indoora and outdoors and music
, furnished the evening’s entertainment.

ding’’ was a feature of the entertain-
, meat. The guests included: Carl
Maricle, Mabel Hall, Nonle Mclver,
Edith Walkup and Willie and Frankle
, Cecil and the Meaars Alva Waits, Os-

: icle, Grover Cecil, Welch Morgan, Clar-
ence Davis, Rlaph Edwards, Norman
Cecil and Leon Deaton.
Reception in Honor of Mra. Brown.
One of the prettiest and most en-
joyable receptions of the season was
that given by Mra, C. C. Huff Tuesday
afternoon nt her hospitable home on
Burnett avenue in honor of her als-
ter, Mra. Brown of Houston.
The guests, who numbered about
seventy-five, were met on the gallery
by Mesdames W. H. Walker, Wiley
Robertson and J. T. Montgomery." In
the receiving party in the hall were
the Moodames T. B. Noble, J. L. Jack-
son, T. T. T. Reese, Wiley Blair and
Brown. In the dining room were Mes-
dames Burnside and Gorsline.
The decorations throughout dis-
played rare taste and were very beau,
tiful. The hall waa decorated in fern
and trailing white moss. In the parlor
a pretty effect was wrought with fern
and rod roses. The dining room waa
beautiful in sweet peas and roses and
the centerpiece was a pyramid of peas.
From a flowery bower in the ball
delicious punch was dispensed in a
charming manner by the Misses Sibyl
Kemp and Dot Walker and Mra. Tom
Folder.
A luncheon of brick ice cream and
cake waa served. A string orchestra
from Fort Worth played sweet mucic
at the bead of the stairway.
