UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
SAMUEL H. WATKINS, OF LINN FLAT, TEXAS.
MOTOR.
EPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 287,893, dated November 6, 1883.
Application filed September 12, 1883. (No model.)To a1Z whon it nzmay concern:
Be it known that I, SASUEL H. WATKINs,
a citizen of the United States, residing at Linn
Flat, in the county of Nacogdoches and State
5 of Texas, have invented a new and useful Mo-
tor, of which the following is a specification,
referencebeing had to the accompanying draw-
ings.
This invention relates to motors, and is es-
io pecially adapted, to operate a, churn-dasher.
Its object is to provide a motor possessing su-
perior advantages in point of simplicity, in-
expensiveness, easy operation, and general
efficiency.
15 In the drawings, Figure 1 is a perspective
view of my improved motor. Fig. 2 is a ver-
tical transverse sectional view of the same.
Referring to the drawings, A designates the
end base-pieces of the frame, from each of
20 which extends a pair of uprights, B B, con-
nected by longitudinal top beams, C C, that
have bearings D D for atransverse operating-
shaft, E, carrying a fly or balance wheel, F, be-
tween beams C C, a crank-disk, G, at one end,
25 and an operating-crank, H, or a band-wheel
at its other end..
Between the uprights B B, at one side of the
frame and near the bottom thereof, are se-
cured a longitudinal beam, I, and another
30 beam, J, above this, thelatter beam, J, being
provided with aperforation, K, through which
passes the screw-threaded lower end of a guide-
bar, L, which has its end secured by nuts M
N, respectively abdve and below beam J,
35 while itstop end is retained in a hole or recess,
0, in the under side of the beam B, as shown.
By removing the nuts the guide-bar can be
readily separated from the frame.
P is a socket-piece, which is formed with a
40 lateral arm, Q, sliding on bar L, a top tongue,
R, and a bottom recess, S, into which works a
set-screw, T. To the tongue R is pivoted the
lower end of a pitman, U, connected with the
crank-disk, and the dasher V is secured in the
45 recess S by the set-screw T.The beam I is provided with a segmental re-
cess, W, that receives the churn-body, (shown
in dotted lines,) and at one side of this recess
is hinged an elastic curved fastening-wire, X,
adapted to have the eye Y at its free end 50
sprung into engagement with a pin, Z, at the
other side of the recess W.
The operation and advantages of my inven-
tion will be readily understood. It is very
simple, and its parts are readily separable for 55
substitution or repair.
I claim as my invention-
1. The combination of the frame compris-
ing the uprights, longitudinal top beams, beam
I, having means for fastening the churn, and 6o
beam J, the guidd-rod secured perpendicularly
between the top beam and beam J, the main
shaft having the crank-disk, the socket-piece
comprising the arm sliding on the rod, the
tongue, and bottom recess, means for fasten- 65
ing the dasher in said recess, and the pitman
pivoted to said tongue and connected to the
crank-disk, substantially as and for the pur-
pose set forth.
2. The combination of the frame of the mo- 70
tor, comprising the uprights, the top beams,
C C, one of which has the recess 0, and the
beam J, having the perforation K, the guide-
rod fitted in recess O and perforation K, and
secured by the nuts M and N above and below 75
beam J, the socket-piece comprising the lat-
eral arm sliding on the rod, the tongue, and
the bottom recess having the set-screw, the
main crank-shaft, and the pitman connected
therewith and pivoted to the tongue, substan- 8o
tially as and for the purpose set forth.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as
my own I have hereto affixed my signature in
presence of two witnesses.
