Texas Department of Public Safety
Urges Motorists to Exercise Caution
Texas Department of Pub-
lic Safety officials are ask-
ing all drivers to think about
the safety of our school
children as the beginning of
a new school year commen-
ces.
The first few weeks of
school are the most danger-
oud according to Major V.J.
Cawthon, Regional Com-
mander for the Texas De-
partment of Public Safety.
“This time of year presents
safety problems for both the
school children and the
driver,” Major Cawthon ex-
plained. “Many youngsters
are attending school for the
first time and others might
• be going to a different school
where they are unfamiliar
with local traffic
conditions.”
Another problem is that
, during the summer vacation
some drivers have gotten out
of the habit of being alert for

both school zones and school
buses. “Every year there
appears to be an unneces-
sary rash of accidents caus-
ed by drivers who fail to
follow safe driving habits for
a stopped school bus,”
Major Cawthon stated.
Texas state law requires
drivers on the same roadway
as a school bus that is
stopped to load or unload
students, to also stop until

On Theft Warrant
Charles Langham, Jr. of
Oklahoma City was arrested
Thursday near Groom by
DPS Officer Gary Davis.
Davis said he stopped
Langham for a speeding
violation after clocking his
vehicle at 93 miles per hour.
“Langham’s eagerness to
pay the fine in cash on the
spot,” alerted Davis to run a
driver’s license check on
him.
Langham was booked into
Carson County jail after the
check revealed him to be
wanted for aggravated
petjury in Beaumont and
misdemeanor theft in Hous-

ITS ELECTRIC. BUT WORKS WITH GAS.
Heat Pump
It cools. It heats. It works with your
present gas system. The Dual Fuel
Heat Pump offers you the best of both
energy worlds. It is electric, so
you get modern, clean, quiet heating and cooling. The Dual Fuel Heat
Pump takes care of 100% of your cooling and about 80% of your
heating needs. It is only when temperatures are extremely low that
your gas furnace goes to work and the Dual Fuel Heat Pump rests.
Each system works at the temperature at which it is most efficient. . .
and most economical.
