For Dist. 84 Seat
Gary T. Ivey,- Ralls and
Owens farmer, announced
Sunday that he will be a
, candidate in the Republican
primary for the District 84
seat in the Texas House of
The position is currently
• held by Foster Whaley (D),
Pampa, who will not seek
reelection.

theYear and County Agri-
culturalist of the Year, will
hold a formal news confer-
encein the near future.
Edwin Moore, Ralls, has
accepted the post of Ivey
Campaign Treasurer.
“One of the main reasons
I decided to get into this race
is because I know the people
, in District 84 and the whole
state are as sick as I am of all
the taxes the past legis-
lative sessions has put on
us,” Ivey commented.
“Maybe if enough of us get
elected in 1988, we can do
something about it.”

Rails.

former Jane Tanner, and
they have five children: Kel-

The Texas Panhandle’s
first major winter storm
struck early Sunday morning
and continued through early
Monday evening. Before it
was over, it had brought well
over a foot of snow while
wind gusts of 20-30 miles
per hour left much higher
drifts. Roads inside town
were virtually impassable on
Monday and 1-40, though
open, was extremely hazard-
ous. The poor road con-
ditions were still hampering
travel as late as Wednesday.
The sotrm was a rude
introduction to winter after
the area had enjoyed un-
seasonably warm, dry days
through the month of Dec-
ember. Although the snow
ended Monday night, the
National Weather Service
was predicting cold temper-
atures through the rest of
the week, with highs only in
the 20’s and 30’s and lows in
the single digits and in some
areas below zero. There was
also the possibility of more
snow by the end of the week.
