Appreciation Dinner Drew Large Crowd
An appreciation dinner
was held Sunday, Dec. 13
with the spirits of the crowd
of 86 not dampened by
winter weather. The dinner
was held to show / apprecia-
tion to those whose hard
work helped to complete the
Groom Community Center.
Mrs. Glynn D Harrell,
spokesman for the Commu-
nity Center Board, praised
the volunteer workers whose
names could not be listed as
no record had been kept of
the many who spent hours of
donated time in the crea-
tion of an adequate meeting
place. “The dinner,” she
said, “it was hoped would
show some measure of the
appreciation felt by the
community.”

Dear Mr. Miller,
During the month of Feb-
ruary, citizens of Groom and
McLean will have the
opportunity to voice their
concerns about the future of
surface transportation in
Texas and the nation..
The State Department of
Highways and Public Trans-
portation, with the cooperat-
ion of the Texas Good Roads
/Transportation Association
and the Texas Highway
Users Conference, is spon-
soring six forums across the
state in February.
As the department’s
representative in this area, I
would like to invite all
Groom and McLean area
residents to participate in
the forum. The meeting for
our area will be held on
February 17, at Lubbock.
The American Association
of State Highway Officials
and more than 100 cooperat-
ing groups nationwide
initiated this long-range
planning effort, called
“Transporation 2020.” The
program begins with forums
held in every state to give
citizens the opportunity to
voice ideas, suggestions and
concerns in a setting where
they will be heard by law-,
makers at both the federal
and state levels.
The Texas forums provide
a unique occasion to be a
part of a nationwide, grass-
roots planning effort. We
encourage all to participate.
We will be happy to send
you details about how to
make your voice heard, even
if you cannot attend the
forum. Call Dan Slak at (806)
355-5671 before December
18.
