Groom School Registration Up
Groom Schools has had a
slight increase in registrat-
ion this year. Julie Friemel,
School Secretary said
“These numbers are as
accurate as we can be at this
time. We had some children
register that are not at
school this morning and
some show up this morning
that had not registered.” 15 seniors, for a total of 56.
At present the figures for Grandview Hopkins
1989 were 216 students, for reports a large increase with
1990, 222. Figures per class
are as follows; Kindergart-

sand” in England. He is on
standby alert status. Dena
reports that he calls home
every three days. If he
misses a call that most likely
means that he is on his wav
to the Persian Gulf. You
may have noticed the yellow
ribbon on the tree next to the
Lambert home. It signifies
their hope for his safe re-
turn.

In W.D. Pool
Jacque Brown, age ,six, of
Skellytown, died Friday in a
drowning accident at the
City Pool in White Deer.
Services were held Monday

accident investigation.”
Timmons commented that
this was the third drowning,
in 30 years at White Deer’s
pool.
Survivors include her
parents Lee and Esther
Brown; sisters Jill, Joan,

Jennifer Wood of Groom;
brother, Justin and her
grandparents, Margaret
Brown and Velma Lane,
both of Eads, Colorado.
The Brown Family lived
here in Groom several years
ago when Mr. Brown was
employed by the school as
Maintenance Supervisor.
Jennifer, a Groom Resident,
is Mrs. Kevin Wood.

Begin Meetings
Local Girl Scout Troops
will very shortly begin troop
meeting for the 1990-91
school year. This year’s
leaders are; Daisy’s

Cadettes and Seniors Donna
Burton. Parents can call

on meeting times etc. Notes

Local Blood
Drive W ednesday
Blood cannot be
manufactured in a
llaboratory or ordered from
a. gift catalog. The
Coffee Memorial Blood
Center, Inc., therefore must
seek it from the only place it
exists-the human body.
A local blood drive will be
conducted on Wednesday,
September 5,1990 from 5:00
to 8:00 p.m. at the Groom
Community Center.

There is a new face in the
Groom News Office, Donna
Burton will be doing the
news gathering duties due to
Betsy Baughman’s return to
school.
Donna will continue as
Animal Control Officer for
the Citv of Groom, and with
her families help, delivering
the Amarillo Globe.

The Friends of the Library
will be sponsoring a used
book sale in the month of
October. All proceeds from
the sale go to fund library
projects.

hold it’s 13th Annual Show
Saturday and Sunday,
September 15 and 16, 1990,.
at the Donald Sell Farm in
Perryton, Texas. One of the
largest collections of rare
tractors and machinery in
the southwest will be on
display.
