and youth have had a very
busy summer. August 17
. and 18 they were joined by
‘ Childress Church of Christ
at Greenbelt Lake to ski,
swim and camp out.
Sponsors were Don and Jo
Webb, Kenneth and Frances
Payton, Kent and Donna
Watson, and Ronnie and
A Linda Fields. Youth
attending the outing were
Kirk Wilketson, Angie Reed
' and Kim and Roni and
Shannon Fields.
A group from the Church
of Christ spent last week
vacationing at the Witt
r ranch near Del Norte
Colorado?' They fished,
I hiked, panned for gold (2
specks) and spent one day in
Creede.

— Conference in Borger. They

and Roni Fields and Kirk
Wilkerson.
Women Meet
Groom United Methodist
Women met at the Church,
August 21, at 9:00 a.m.
Sybil Harrell, president
presided over the business
meeting. Members voted to
buy a new sofa for the
parsonage. They also voted
to invite McLean United
Methodist Women to their
next meeting which will be a
study by Rev. Steve
Campbell. Campbell will be
the organizations guest
speaker and will also teach
the study. The program is
scheduled to begin at 10:00
a.m. and will conclude with
a luncheon at noon.
U.M.W. District Meeting
will be at White Deer on
September 18. Members are
reminded to take their extra
pennies to the meeting.
Oma Schaffer conducted
the program “The. Church as
Advocate for Public Educat-
ion”. She was assisted by
Shirley Lamberson, Karen
Case and Bertie Helton.
Karen Case, hostess,
served delicious cinnamon
rolls to the following
members; Essie Knowles,
Shirley Lamberson, Julia
McGee, Oma Schaffer, Pearl
Banks, Mamie Ritter, Ruby

Sincere sympathy to
Buster Painter in the loss of
his sister Ruby Thompson of
El Centro, Calif. She was 92
years of age. Burial was in
Brawley, Calif.
Mr. and Mrs. Billy Ray
Painter and Elizabeth were
here last week visiting his
parents, Mr. and Mrs. Burl
Painter and family and
friends. Elizabeth stayed to
finish her senior year.
The guest minister at the
United Methodist Church
Sunday was Leo Wyatt, a
member of Pleasant Valley
United Methodist Church,
Amarillo. His wife, Margaret,
attended Sunday School and
church. Leo and Margaret
are longtime friends of Rev.
Jim and Laura, having met
at the Methodist Children’s
Home in Waco, where all
four were home parents. We
appreciate Leo filling in for
Jim who was at a meeting in
Amarillo from Thursday to
Sunday.
Pastor and Mrs. Jim Davis
were visited by their son and
daughter-in-law over the
weekend, Bill and Dianne
Davis.
Mrs. Asberry recently re-
turned from a visit to her
daughter, Melva Seay, in
Franklin Tenn.
Billy Jones returned to the
hospital last Wednesday due
to complications from his
accident a few weeks ago.He
was released Saturday and
will remain an out patient for
some time.
