wise connected to the tops of the posts, and
that panels have been suspended from said
rails in various positions and arrangements.
It is also known that longitudinal top wires
5 have been employed in wire fences to support
the wire panels of the fence, which are also
stapled to the posts. I do not, therefore,
broadly claim such construction, my claim be-
ing for my own improved fence, embodying
[o the longitudinal top wire extending along the
plane of the fenceand supported in recesses in
the posts, the panels being suspended upon
said wire by means of the wires intertwisted
between the top strand and anchored at the
15 bottom by means of hooks engaging the bob-
tom loops of the strands by which the rails are
secured together, the whole forming a fence
possessing many advantages in point of
strength, simplicity, and durability, and more
20 easily and cheaply constructed.
I claim as my invention and desire to secure
by Letters Patent-The improved fence herein described, con-
sisting of the series of upright posts provided
with the notches or incisions in their face, hav- 25
ing staples b, the continuous longitudinal
barbed top wire extending along the posts, the
panels comprising the rails secured at their
ends by the wire strands having their top ends
intertwisted under and above the top wire, 30
one strand being passed between the strands
of the longitudinal top barbed wire, and the
hooks engaging the lowermost loop of the said
securing-strands, substantially as and for the
purpose set forth. 35
In testimony whereof I affix my signature in
presence of two witnesses.
