UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
ALBERT WILHELM, OF PLEASANT HILL, TEXAS.
PLOW.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 338,325, dated March 23, 1886.
Application filed January 14, 1886. Serial No. 188.,58. (No model.)To all whon it L)bay concern:
Be it known that I, ALBERT WILHELM, a
citizen of the United States, residing at Pleas-
ant Hill, in the county of Washington and
5 State of Texas, have invented certain new and
useful Improvements in Plows; and I do here-
by declare that the following is a full, clear,
and exact description of the same, reference
being had to the annexed drawings, making a
io part of this specification, and to the letters
and figures of reference marked thereon.
Figure 1 of the drawings is an under side
perspective view of a plow constructed in ac-
cordance with my invention, and Fig. 2 a de-
15 tail view in section showing the manner of at-
taching the standard to the landside-plate of
the plow.
The present invention has relation to cer-
tain new and useful improvements in plows;
20 and it consists in the details of construction,
substantially as shown in the drawings and
hereinafter described and claimed.
In the accompanying drawings, A repre-
sents the plow-beam, provided with the usual
25 handles, B; and a, the braces attached to said
handles and to the beam.
The mold-board C and point D, if preferred,
may be made in separate pieces and fastened
together by a brace, b, and bolts c, so as to
30 enable the point to be replaced by a new one
when worn sufficiently to become useless.
The standard E is secured to the under side
of the beam A by two bolts, the forward bolt
acting as a pivot, and the inner or rear bolt, d,
35 passing through a transverse elongated slot,
e, and acts as a set-screw to hold the standard
to its lateral adjustment, either to the right or
left, as desired. This standard consists of a
longitudinal flat bar, f, through which the
40 bolts above mentioned pass, downwardly-ex-
tending arms g t, connected by brace i, the
forward one of the arms having an angular
seat, k, for the inner side of the plow. The
lower extremities of the arms g h have ser-rations 1 and vertically - elongated slots m, 45
through which pass bolts n, secured to the
landside-plate F. Serrated washers engage
with the serrations 1, and through these wash-
ers extend the bolts n, a nut, r, engaging the
screw-threaded end of each bolt to firmly hold 50
the washers in place, thus enabling the land-
side-plate to be raised or lowered when de-
sired.
In black and waxy lands when used thereon
the mold-board and point may be made in one 55
piece; but for use on sandy soil it is prefer-
able to form them separate. The point of the
plow upon its inner side has a brace, s, and in
addition to this a bolt, t, is used to secure the
mold-board to the standard E, and as no bolts 6o
are used to fasten the point to the standard it
is not as likely to become clogged, the seat k
of the standard, in addition to the brace, hold-
ing the point firmly in position.
The construction of the standard E renders 65
it both strong, durable, and effective for the
purpose.
I claim-
In a plow, the combination, with the beam,
mold-board, point, and landside-plate, of a 70
standard consisting of a longitudinal bar, to
which the beam is attached, and provided
with a transverse elongated slot, two down-
wardly-extending arms connected together by
a cross-brace and having serrations and elon- 75
gated slots on their extremities, and bolts,
nuts, and serrated washers for adjustably con-
necting the landside- plate thereto, the for-
ward one of said arms having a seat for the
plow-point, substantially as and for the pur- 80
pose set forth.
In testimony that I claim the above I have
hereunto subscribed my name in the pres-
ence of two witnesses.
ALBERT WILHELM.
