UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
FORTONATO CLEMENTE ZANETTI, OF BRYAN, TEXAS.
MEDICINE-CASE.
GPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 341,621, dated IlMay 11, 1886.
Application filed October 9, 1885. Serial No. 179,457. ( o model.)To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, FoRTONATO CLEMENTE
ZANETTI, a citizen of the United States, resid-
ing at Bryan, in the county of Brazos and State
5 of Texas, have invented a new and useful Im-
provement in Medicine-Cases, of which the
following is a specification, reference being had
to the accompanying drawings.
My invention has relation to improvements
to in medicine-cases; and the novelty consists in
the construction, combination, arrangement,
and adaptation of the several parts for serv-
ice, substantially as hereinafter fully set forth,
and specifically pointed out in the claims.
15 The invention has especially for its object to
provide a series of receptacles for the medicine
to be taken or administered, said receptacles
being of different colors, to avoid mistakes or
errors in the distribution of the medicines; to
20 provide means for accurately indicating the
medicine to be taken; to indicate the time
which said medicine shall be taken; to pro-
vide means for holding a spoon or other arti-
cle within the cases for taking the medicine
25 when in a liquid or powder form, and to pro-
vide means which shall be very simple in con-
struction, cheap of manufacture, and easily
and conveniently operated.
I have shown an embodiment of my inven-
30 tion in the accompanying drawings, in which
Figure 1 is a perspective view of one of my
improved medicinecases or receptacles. Fig.
2 is a vertical longitudinal sectional view on
the line x x of Fig. 1. Fig. 3 is a detail per-
35 spective view of the receptacle proper, with
the cover removed and a spoon in position
therein. Fig. 4 is a plan view of the cover.
Fig. 5 is a plan view of the receptacle with
the cover removed.
40 Like letters of reference in the several fig-
ures of the drawings denote corresponding
parts.
Referring to the drawings, A designates my
improved medicine case or receptacle, com-
45 prising avessel, B, and a cover, C, detachably
and removably fitted together, and made, pref-
erably, oval in shape, as clearly shown.
The improved medicine-case is especially
designed for the use of homeopathists; and I
50 propose to provide four of the cases or recep-
tacles, each of a different color from its fellowcase, to receive medicines of different kinds,
to avoid errors or mistakes in the distribu-
tion of said cases and medicines by the pre-
scribing physician or the pharmacist. The 55
cases may be made of glass or other suitable
material in any preferred shape or form and
size, and of any colors which are different from
each other. The colors employed may be red,
blue, green, and white, when but four of the 6o
receptacles are used to constitute a set; but it
will be understood that I do not limit myself
to the number of cases orreceptacles employed,
nor the colors thereof.
The vessel, case, or receptacle proper, B, is 65
provided with two ledges, b, arranged at dia-
metrically-opposite points thereof and at a dis-
tance from the upper edge, said ledges adapted
to receive and support a spoon or other device
for administering the medicines, the position 70
which the spoon occupies in said receptacle
being clearly shown in Fig. 3 of the drawings.
The top or cover C is provided at its edges
with a depending flange, c, which, when the
cover is in position on the receptacle or vessel, 75
fits over and below the plane of the upper
edges of said vessel. (See Fig. 2.) The top
C is also provided with a dial, D, on its upper
surface, said dial having two concentric rows
of figures, d d', arranged one within the other, 80o
and two independently-moving hands or indi-
cators, E E', pivoted on a common center or
pin, e, passing through the said top. The
outer circle or rows of figures, 4, are num-
bered, preferably, from one to one hundred, 85
as clearly shown, to indicate the number of
medicine to be taken-that is to say, the vial
or package contained orinclosed in the recep-
tacle being numbered and the long arm E be-
ing set to correspond or register with the num- 90
her on the outer concentric row of figures, d.
The inner rows of figures, d', are numbered
from one to twelve, to indicate the number of
hours to elapse before the medicine is to be
taken, the arm E' being shorter than its fellow 95
arm, and indicating or pointing to the figure
on the row or circle d'. The top is provided
with the words "Every Hour," and when the
hand E' is set to the figure it indicates that
the medicine is to betakenoncein everynum- Ico
ber of hours indicated by the said index or
hand-as, for example, if it (the index) points
