UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
WILLIAM H. ADAMS, OF FORT McINTOSH, LAREDO, TEXAS, ASSIGNOR TO
HIMSELF AND GEORGE YOUNG.RHIND, OF SAME PLACE.
REVOLVING TARGET.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 350,227, dated October 5, 1886.
Application filed April 8, 1886. Serial No. 198,209. (No model.)To all whom, it may concern:
Be it known that I, WILLIAM H. ADAmIs, of
Fort McIntosh, Laredo, in the county of Webb
and State of Texas, have invented a new and
5 Improved Revolving Target, of which the fol-
lowing is a full, clear, and exact description.
Reference is to be had to the.accompanying
drawings, forming a part of this specification,
in which similar letters of reference indicate
1o corresponding parts in all the figures.
Figure 1 is a perspective view of my new
and improved revolving target. Fig. 2 is a
plan view of the same, and Fig. 3 is a sec-
tional elevation taken on the line x x of Fig. 2.
15 The object of my invention is to provide a
revolving target of improved and simplified
construction; and theinvention consists, prin-
cipally, of a revolving central frame con-
structed to receive separate target - frames,
20 which may be easily detached from the frame
for repairs or for other purposes and replaced
therein.
The invention also consists in the construc-
tion, arrangement, and combination of parts,
25 all as hereinafter described and claimed.
Referring to the drawings, A represents the
base of the target, formed of the side sills, a a,
cross-sills b b, and central sills, c c, all framed
intoeach other. Rising from the central sills,
30 C, is the upright metal spindle B. This is se-
cured in the base by the metal plates d d,
through which it passes, and upon it is placed
the main post C, which is bored at e to receive
the spindle, and in the opening e is fitted the
35 metal bushingf, to prevent wear, and a plate,
g, and washer h" are placed at the bottom of
the post, also to prevent wear as the post re-
volves. Framed into the post C are the cross-
arms D D, of equal length. These arms are
40 held securely to the post by the clamp-pieces
E and heavy bolts F, and the ends of the arms
D are slotted, as shown at G, to receive the
upper and lower horizontal bars, h h, of the
target-frames H. The frames Hare composed
45 of the said bars h and the vertical cross-pieces
h' h', and to them are secured the plates J, onwhich the bulvs-eye and rings of the target
are painted. The target-frames H are held in
the slots G by the hand - screws L L, which
work in screw -threaded openings made in 50
plate M, attached to the cross-pieces D in the
slots G, as shown clearly in the drawings.
The revolving portion of the target is locked
in position to hold one of the target-plates J in
position to receive the shot by a spring, K, se- 55
cured upon the base A,'and the spring is pro-
vided with a rod, K', by which it may be de-
pressed to disengage the target by a foot-bar,
K', that reaches to a shelter, behind which the
target-tender stands. 60
By constructing the target as described the
same is cheap, durable, and practical, and the
target-frames-H may be easily removed and
replaced when the plates J require renewal.
Having thus described my invention, what I 65
claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters
Patent, is-
1. In a target, the combination, with the
revolving post C and arms D thereon, of the
detachable target - frames H, carried by said 70
arms, substantially'as and for the purposes
set forth.
2. The base A, provided with the vertical
spindle B, and the post C, held upon the spin-
dle and provided with the slotted arms D,and 75
screws L, in combination with the detachable
target-frames H, secured to said arms by the
screws L, substantially as and for the purposes
set forth.
3. The base A, provided with a vertical do
spindle, Bi and having secured to it the spring-
locking device K, in combination with the
post C, placed upon the spindle B, the hori-
zontal arms D, attached to the post, and the
separate target-frames H, adapted to be se- 8
cured to the arms D, the locking device Kbe-
ing arranged to engage with the lower arm, D,
substantially as and for the purposes set forth. '
