2. In a washing-machine, the combination

slats flexibly connected by wires and provided

same and the said cross-bar, the shaft 14, and
the pinion mounted on the shaft and meshing
with the rack-bars, substantially as described.
3. In a washing-machine, the combination
of the body, the rotary rubbing-cylinder, the 25
stationary rubber having one end provided
with rods, the spiral spring arranged on the
rods, the rack-bars 12, secured to the other
end of the stationary rubber, and gearing ell-
gaging the rack-bars for raising or lowering 30
the rubber, substantially as described.
