We are having some fine weather.
The farmers are busy chopping cot-
ton. All the crops look fine.
Mr. Jack C'owen has returned from
the hospital in Temple and is getting
along fine.

Woman's Club
Holds Last Meet
Of Club Year

The last meeting of th« Woman's
Club for the year 1981-82 was held
May 19 at Lake Woodrow.
There were twenty-one members
and four visitors present to enjoy the
lovely dinner and program.
The cars arrived at noon and din-
ner was served immediately, after
which, the club was called to order
by the president, Mrs. Jackson, and
the regular business session was held.
The officers gave their yearly re-
ports showing a most profitable as
well as enjoyable year.
The club unanimously elected Mrs.
C. W. Bullock and Mrs. Joe Rice mem-
bers and will be glad to welcome them
next October at the beginning of the
new year.
Mrs. Turner, Mrs. King's grand-
mother, Miss Lucy Harrison, 4th dis-
trict literary chairman, Mrs. Matson
and Miss Sadie Hatfield, home demon-
stration agent, were the guests for
Misses Harrison and Hatfield were

Mr. and Mrs. Otto Berndth of
Caldwell were guests of Mr. and
Mrs. F. W. Jannett Sunday.
Mr. and Mrs. Cecil Porter attended
the Chriesinan picnic and play Fri-
day and report a nice time.
Mrs. Rudolph Boling and children,
Kenneth and Lanelle of Gause are
guests of Mr. and Mrs. W. E.
Thorpe at present.
The W. M. U. entertained their
husbands Saturday night in the home
of Mr. and Mrs. J. E. Phegtoy.

excellent lecture on her work and urg
ed the club to get behind a move
ment to have a home demonstration
agtnt in this county.
She had numerous cans and jars of
various fruits and vegetables, show-
ing how people can live at home the
yoar around. She also had many rugs
made by her club members which she
displayed and stated that her wcrk

but the betterment of the home in
general as well as beautifying same
by the planting of flowers and native
shrubs.
After Miss Hatfield's instructive
talk, Miss Harrison gave a short one
and invited the club over to Bryan to
the flower show.
This concluded the program for the
day and all departed, after having
thanked the year book chairman, Mrs.
H. G. Womble and the entertainment
committee for a most enjoyable day.
Tha Burleson County Chamber of
Commerce has baan advised that
certain parties have been, working in
our county securing money from
citixens under promiae of a reduction
In their taxes, in soma instances
they claimed to be working under the
Burleson County Chamber of Com-
merce. This is to advise that they
had no connection with the Chamber
of Commerce and we wish to warn
our people against paying out money
to strangers, especially on such an
unreasonable proposition as this one.
We advise that before paying out
your money give the matter a tho-
rough investigation, as tlw country
is infested with all such money
schemers.

The rains the past week were very
beneficial to the crops and everything
is growing at full speed. The storm
Sunday a week-ago did a lot of dam-
age however. Lightning struck in
several places and one bolt killed
some cattle belonging to Mr. J. J.
Luksa, Sr. Also the wind tore down
a hundred foot length of the chicken
house on the Brymer poultry farm
and some hail fell though it was
scarce and small in size.
Mrs. Fred Dancak and daughter,
Miss Klda Lee, of Deanville spent
Sunday in the home of Mr. and Mrs.
Steve Dancak.
Mr. John Jaap of Smithville visited
his mother during the week-end.
Mr. Fritz Dotson of Deanville visit-
ed Mr. and Mrs. Henry Dotson Sun-
day.
(Mr. and Mrs. Henry Kuchera and
daughter, Henrietta of Second creek
and Mr. and Mrs. Jacob Schweda and
little daughter, Bar bora Jo, of Cald-
well were Sunday guests in the home
of Mr. and Mrs. Anton Wotipka.

week-end with Miss Hazel Dotson.
Mr. Jacob Brymer was a visitor in
the Hogg community Sunday.
Mrs. V. A. Wyatt, who is at A. and
M. College, spent the week-ei.d with
his children.
Mr. and Mrs. Leon Albright visited
relatives in Bryan Sunday.

and Alfons Budnik spent Sunday with
Messrs. August and Fred Shopek of

Quite a crowd of young people
gathered at the home of Mr. and Mrs.
S. Dancak and everyone present re-
ports a good time was had.
A party was given at Mr. and Mrs.
J. C. Brymer which was well attend-
ed by young people of this and sur-
rounding communities. Various out-
door games were played and all say
they had a pleasant time. Out of
the community guesta included: Mr.
and Mrs. Joe Lambrecht and children
and Mr. Eldie Dwarsky of Caldwell;
Miss Annie Brinkmann of Deanville;
Mr. S. Albright of Second Creek;
Misses Ida Lee and Margaret Al-
bright of Red Hollows, and many
others of Hogg and Dime Box.

Apartment Robbed
Monday morning, Mr. and Mrs.
William Wasmann of San Antonio,
gue«ts of Mr. and Mm. J. F. Cobb,
received a message from the police in
San Antonio to the effect that their
apartment had been burglarized and
practically stripped. They left im-
mediately for home to ascertain the
loss and sec about recovering the
things that were taken.
