Double Wedding Held
For Houston Couples
An exceptional double wedding
el interest to friends here and
in Houston, was held Saturday af-
ternoon at 2:30 o'clock at the
home of Rev. ¿ind Mrs. A. S.
Broaddus in the Second Creek
community. Both father and son
were married at the same time.
Rev. Bronddus read the single
ring vows uniting in mnrriaire
John P. Backer, Sr. and Mrs.
Opel Shields. He also aoad the |
double ring rites in which Mi .
DeAlva Stewart became tin1 bride;
of John F. Backer, Jr. The four
arc residents of Houston.
Mif. Backer Sr. wore a navy
auit with navy accessories and u
corsage of white carnations. Mi's.
Hacker Jr, chose for her wedding
frock of beige luce over pink
v iih navy accessories. Her cor-
•age was of pink carnations and
a pink hat completed her ensemble.
Mi. and Mrs. Wesley Cotten of
Houston were the couples only
rUendants. Mrs. Cotten wore i
dress of brown nylon and her ac-
cessories were in white. Her cor-
sage was of white carnations.
A reception for the wedding
party and a few close friends was
held at the home of Mr. and Mrs.
I). P. Love at Hoskins.
The senior Backers will spend
few days in M-xia and the jun-
io: couple left for San Antonio

The period of May 24*31, 1052, has been designated by the
Veterans of Foreign Wars of the United States and its Auxiliary for
the annual Buddy Poppy Sale.
All proceeds from the 3<de wm be used for the benetlt of the
men now serving in the Armed Forces and needy war veterans and the
orphans and widows of deceased veterans.
Th#" annual Sale of the V.F.W. "Buddy" Poppy will enable all
cltlsens to show their gratitude to servicemen and have a part in
continuing the assistance rendered to needy disabled war veterans
and their families.
