The Atlanta Common wealth gives
he following receipe tor making «
substitute for lager beer. All we
have to say about the matter is that
the lager beer mude in San Antonio
aud New Braunfels, in this State, is
almost if not quite equal in eyery
particular to Scotch ale. Anybody
can try the following who may think
it worth while :
Take an old boot leg, an old cast
off red fiaunel shirt, and put in a five
gallon keg of rain water, Let it
stand for two weeks and "ferment"
Well. TtA put it into a ten gallon
keg, adding two quarts ot Chin
berries (to make a bead) three gailon*
of water from a tub used by slim-
makers to soak leather in (three
months old) to give it the right
flavor, and one pound of assafaadita
to give it the Dutch smell. Let it
stand for one week and add a couple
of Florida beans, when it will be
ready for use. Saleratus or sal eodii
may be added ad libitum to make it
rise.
In the Confederate Hi ium of Rep-
resentatives, on motion of Mr. Mc-
Dowell, of North Carolina, it wan
referred to the Committee on Judic-
iary, to inquire into the expediency
of reporting a bill providing for the
sale of all negroes taken in armB
against the Confederate States, the
proceeds to be divided among the
troops engaged in their capture.
« Better introduce a bill to hang, it
captured, both the negroes who are
found with arms in their hands, snd
the white men who command them.
