that when the news reached Washington of the
capture of Sherman's battery, General Scott
privately ordered six cannoo to be taken from
the Navy Yari and sent to the neighborhood of
Alexandria, with horses, which were brought
hack with the announcement that Sherman's
battery had not fallen into the hands of the
enemy."
