sation granted by Congress to this line of

pool and back) per annum, is $33,000 per

of #385,000, as heretofore received.

WHEREAS, Francis Wilson, a resident o*
NewtoD county, State aforesaid, has filed
his petition alleging', that by virtue of a loca-
tion and survey ot 24 labors 175, 720 square
varas t>f laud, situate and being iq the County
of Guadalupe, State aforesaid, about three miles
North-east of tha Guadalupe river, fronting the
old Nachadoches and Bexar road; in the Districi
of Travis, he is entitled to receive from the Com-
missioner of the General Land Office, a patent
in due form of ¡ax, vesting in him the fee sim-
ple title to saia land: but that the said Commis-
sioner refuses to issue such patent to him, be-
cause there is a paper illegally on the files of
said Land O dice, purporting to be the testiracnio
in English,'of a title' issued by Talbot-Cham-
bers, as Commissioner of the Colony of Benja-
min R. Milam, dated the30th day of September,
A. D. 1835, to Burleson Gage, as a Colonist in
said Colony,and that he is informed ana believes,
that the said Burleson G:ige, has departed this
life, and has made oath that his heirs are un-
known to him.
These are therefore to command you to cite
the heirs ot the said Burleson Gage, by publica-
tion of this writ for eight weeks previc^s^o the
return day thereof, in the San Anton:.o Ledger,
a newspaper published in the city of San Anto-
nio, Bexar county, to be, and personally appear
before the Honorable District Court, to be hold-
en in and- lor the county of Gua¿aüupe, on the

the 20th of July, 1S52, four Negroes, of the fol-
lowing description, viz: JIM, about 5 feet 8
inches high, and speaks slow when spoken to;
color black. STEPHEN, about the same
height, copper color, and speaks very slow when
spoken to. ARTHUR, about 5 feet 5 or six
inches high, yellow, and speaks very quick.
ALFRED, about 5 feet 8or9 inches high, black,
and .speaks slow. The said Negroes are sup-
posed to be in company with one belonging io

is about 6 feet high and weighs about 200 pounds.
They are supposed to be making their way for
Mexico, as a Mexican by the name of Phillippi

this side of the Colorado, or two hundred il

banks, up to the preseret month, show that
nineteen of theso institutions have $2,952,-
000 of specie to $22,049$00 of circulation
and deposits—or about 12 1-2 of immedi-
ate liabilities for one dollar of specie.

Soap.—If the civilisation of « conntry
is measured by the amount of soap üsed in
it, as some philosopher contends, Great
Britain is highly civilized. In England
and Scotland, daring the year ending the
5th of January last, there were 1.327,183
pounds of silieeted soap made; 184,725,-
265 nfbunds of other hard soap ; and 19,-
-023^051 poundeof soft soap. There were
317 licensed soapmakers; 152 in Eng-
land, 24 in Scotland, and 141 in Ireland.
Dividend—/The Mutual Benefit Life
Insurance Company of Louisiana have
declared their annual dividend of 15 per
cent., making 65 per cent, on the year's
business. This home institution has paid

were 446 deaths in city of New York.
Fannin county, Texas, will raise this
year 50,000 bushels of wheat, and 500,000
bushels of corn.
He was attacked violently on the day of nis
death with the cholera, helivine: but a few hours
after the attack and suffered intensely Avithout
a murmur. He was a native of Georgia, em-
igrated to Texas in 1845, and lived in and near
San Antonio ever since. In his death his wife
has tost a kind and affectionate husband, his
children a fond and indulgent father, the Ma-

Companies, of Captains Ford, Conner and
McCullough, are hereby notified, that the pav-
ment ol Capt. Ford's company. (2 terms of ser-
vice) has been assigned to Major H. Hill, Pay-
master U. S. Armj% and the payment will be
made at San Antonio. The payment to each of
the companies of Captains Conner and McCul-
lough will be made at San Antonio by the under-
signed.
The Paymaster will be prepared to pay the
different companies as soon as the rolls sha'll be
obtained from the Captains of Companies, which
we expect will be by the 1st of September prox.

A RE WARD of Twenty-live Dollars will be
. paid for a package, lost or mislaid, contain-
ing several Headright Certificates of various
persons, belonging to the estate of John E.
O'Conncll. deceased, to whom they were trans-
ferred. The names of the original grantees not
recollccted. The above documents were left in
the hands of Robert L. Redding, E<q.. of Bas-
trop, Texas, some time in the year 184Í. for the
purpose of locating them; since which, Mr.
Redding has died, and no trace of the papers
has been found. It is supposed they are in the
hands of some surveyor, and in the hope of their
recovery, the undersigned offers the above re-
