WHEREAS, the failure of tho elvil author*
ities and citiiens of Karnes county, up
to this time, to take any activo measures for
the arrest and punishment of the persons who
roccntly assaulted unoffendingeltirens on tbe
publio highway, and killed one and wounded
soveral others, seems to require the adoption
of such measures, on the part of the State, as
will preserve peace and prevent similar oo-
currences hereafter:
