Abusive.—a federal offioer was dismis-
sed, lately, at New York, and' vents hi*
disappointment and malice in an abusive
letter to the President of the United Sthtes.
The production is unworthy of a freeman:
und if, in noticing it, we express'regret
at its publication, we are prompted solely
by the respect we all owe to a public offi-
oer ; one who is by age, and the (lignified
position he holds, incapacitated, as a
gentleman and a Christian, from all ap-
propriate rejoinder.
The reader will find, in to-day's paper,
tho official returns of the late election held
in Bexar county.
The McKiuney Messenger alludes to
"flie maze of uncertainty in which the re-
sult of the approaching Presidential elec-
tion is enveloped." Your remarks apply
to your own ticket, Mr,. Messenger, and
tliat most fatally, and tho people of-Texas
•will not cast many votes for it. Houston

the most intense of the whole disaster. The
