We glvo this week the first Gen-
eral Order of P, |I
•Sheridan, in n(ai|in}iig {¡omfpan4 of
(he liistrictaof Louiajana and Ty?ns,
under the act of Congreaa known aa
the Military Bill. The order, is
moderate in tope, and will generally
be acknowledged aa uneh nioro iuil4
than was to hare lietn expected.
The «juestipq that first preheat* jt-
sel) to the mind of the Texas reader
is,«' what «hall we do 1" We don't
see that there is much that we can do
at preaent, metre than ailently to $¡p-
quleace, and "wait for orders." When
prdpra are ¡taped informing us w^at
to do, let pa promptly obey. We
would be glad to |ue roorganlzation
proceed u promptly and rapidly as
possible; but whether we oan hpitei\
it by any efforta that wo nviy
make, is a matter for the serloua re-
flection of all who have the prosperity
and general welfare of the couutry at
heart.
Ab formerly we ccqniosccd and or-
ganized in compliance with the plan
of t^e Presiden^, Bp now, as good
citiawns, let na accept chper(uUy the
terms propo^efl by C^igret(s. Jyt
negro, suffrage baa been imposed up.pu
us by Congress, If shall prove a
eour^e of advantage and prosperity to
the country, wo oqght to rejoice that
is so ¡ if it shall, on {he contrary,
prove disaatiap^ to tbe interests of
rhn South and the Union, aa many
are confident it will dof we have not
ourselves to, blame, ^pt opr rulers and
lawmakers, in whose deliberation^
we had no- representation and no
voico. " What can not bo cured must
be endured," is an old ond trite max-
im, and what mast bo endured, may
as wifll be ondured cheerfully as,
otherwise.
As who are disfra^chiaed, is not
yet folly clear by tho terms of tho
bill, but no doubt an order wijl soon
bo issued fully defining the. classes
entitled to vote a|id,thosewho are not.
Ip any event let us go cheerfully
forward, agreeably to orden, not mur-
muring over the past, bnt look to the
futuro and work out onr destiny. Let
us hoyo something stable and secure.
Let the cb% nnela of business begin
and continue to flow in an unbroken
current, and prosperity may once
more return to tis', and wa enjoy tbe
{umefitB of a permanent government.
A SaggfititfH.-rrVf suggest to the

Monday next, the propriety of caus-
ing tho proceeding to t a published.
The proceedings of tho City Councils
of 'Houston and Galveston are regu-
larly published in on« or moro of the
city papers. The proceedinga of the
Police Courts are of equal importance
to tho ciHwina of tho county. Tax*
payers are ever desirous of being in*
formed of the condition of county
affairs ¡ and we know of no way in
whi.ch they fould eo rc dl)y acqulrt
the information as through, the copnty
paper. Of courBjp, wo dp not deny
but that this v[ould by a benefit to
us ; but sro we ny.vor ta surest any-

who reside here for a time and then
