Dkkvek. Col . June 5.—Bulletin—The
business portion of C'recde. • <>!.,. burned
this morning. Loss, fl.000.UU0. No fa
talities.
Creede is now the home of our young
friend Jim P. Owens who untfl recently
was teller in the Citizens National Bank
of this city. We take it that Jim was
smooth enough to take care of himself
even in a calamity like the above.
Jimtown, sepe rated from the famous
mining town of Greede, Col. bf half a
mile, was almost totally destroyed by tire
this morning. The tiames were started by
an explosion of coal oil with which a fain
ily living in the Kinneavey block were
starting a tire to prepare breakfast. There
is no tire department ami the tiames hud it
all their own way, and in a short time
burned through three rows of frame
buildings for the distance of a mile. Tin-
tota! loss is estimated at $1,000,000, with
insurance about $250,000. ■*
