Wade Adams wins all-expense-paid UN trip
Wade Adams, a sophomore
in Canadian high school, was
named Tuesday night as the
winner of a $400 expense-paid
trip to the United Nations
Headquarters in New York
City.
The trip is sponsored by the
Odd Fellows Lodge, and
Wade's expenses as a mem-
ber of the caravan of students
from Texas will be paid by

Mrs. Malouf Abraham and
Bill Ed and Ben Ezzell jr.
were in Abilene over the
weekend. The Abrahams vis-
ited with Mr. and Mrs. Mar-
vin Lee Cooper and Ben spent
his time getting acquainted
with the McMurry College
campus.
Mrs. Jim Terrell of Pampa
was an overnight guest Thurs-
day night in the John Wilk-
inson home.
Mrs. G. E. Terrell returned
to her home in Pampa Tues-
day after spending several
days in the home of her
daughter, Mrs. John Wilkin-
son.

The winner of the competi-
tion is the son of Sheriff and
Mrs. Walter Adams.
Competing with him for the
prize Tuesday night in an ora-
torical contest conducted at
the IOOF Hall before mem-
bers of the Odd Fellows and
Rebekah lodges were Annette
Arnold, Janie Mee and Fred-
die Borst.
Freddie Borst was selected
as runner-up and alternate,
in event that the winner is
unable to make the trip.
Contestants had already
completed written current
events tests prepared by the
IOOF, and had submitted
written records of their schol-
astic and extra-curricular ac-
tivities in the schools. As the
third and final portion of their
competition, they were re-
quired to appear before the
group and read letters telling
the Odd Fellows "why I want
to visit the United Nations."
Judging the competition
were Jim Mitchell, Joe Ver-
non, Ben Ezzell, Harry Wilbur
jr., and Mrs. Jo Riley.
The UN trip will be made
this summer by chartered bus,
which will leave from Irving,
Texas, on June 16, making
the trip to New York by way
of the National Capital in
Washington, D. C., and return-
ing to Texas on July 5.
All expenses of the students
making the trip will be paid
by their respective Odd Fel-
lows and Rebekah Lodges.
Only high school sopho-
mores and juniors, who will
be back in their schools next
year and available for speak-
ing engagements before stu-
dent and civic groups, were
eligible for the competition.
