Car-truck crash
Tommy Waters is
killed in collision
Tommy Waters, 18-year old
Canadian youth, was killed
instantly in a car-truck col-
lision 16 miles east of Pampa
early Sunday morning.
Two companions, Jack Rut-
ledge, 19, and Carl Rutledge,
17, were injured in the crash.
The three boys were en route
home from Pampa after at-
tending the Top O' Texas Ro-
deo dance at Pampa Saturday
night.
The accident occurred at
about 2:30 a.m. at the top of
a hill on U. S. Highway 60
between Pampa and Miami.
Tommy, driving a 1960 Chev-
rolet sedan, apparently went
to sleep at the wheel, officers
said. His car crossed the cen-
ter line of the three-lane road-
way on a curve at the top of
the hill, and crashed into a
south-bound truck driven by
Willie Pat Wilkinson of Dor-
than, Alabama. The truck dri-
ver was not injured.
Waters' car was demolished,
and the truck was badly dam-
aged.
There were no skid marks,
indicating that • the brakes
were never applied. The truck
was in the right hand passing
lane at the crest of the hill
and just entering the curve.
Tommy was pronounced
dead at the scene of the crash.
The two Rutledge boys, his
cousins, were rushed to High-
land General Hospital inPam*
