John Edwin Grist are wed
ABILENE — Marjorie Fran-
ces Sayles, daughter of Mr.
and Mrs. John Welcome Sayles
of 1118 Sayles Blvd., became
the bride Monday evening of
John Edwin Grist, son of Mrs.
John Walter Grist of Canadi-
an and the late Mr. Grist.
Family sentiment enriched
the wedding for which the
Rev. Joe David Ruff in was of-
ficiating clergyman at Cen-
tral Presbyterian Church. Bill
Grist of Canadian, brother of
the bridegroom, was best
man; John Robert Sayles,
brother of the bride, was jun-
ior groomsman; children in
the bridal party were cousins
of the bride, and her aunt,
Mrs. Hugh B. Tandy of Moody,
was a soloist.
Frank Carver of Canadian
was also a soloist. Mrs. J.
Gordon Weir was organist.
Mr. Sayles gave his daughter
in marriage. Her gown was a
Murray Hamburger original
fashioned of white bouquet
taffeta. The bodice was
moulded, the long sleeves
coming to points over the
hands. Hand • run Alencon
lace reembroidered with seed
pearls was at the extend-
ed neckline. The same lace
topped her bridai crown band-
ed with open design of pearls
and crystals. The skirt of the
gown was boll shaped in
front; unpressed pleats gave
added fullness to sides and
back. The aisle-wide train ex-
tended from the waistline to
cathedral length. Her finger-
tip veil was of illusion. She
carried white roses with ste-
phanotis atop a white Bible
belonging to Sharon Nugent
of El Paso, a bridesmaid in
the wedding.
The bride's only jewelry was
a diamond and pearl lavaliere
which was a gift of the bride-
groom.
Martha Minter was maid of
honor. Bridesmaids were Dilt-
zie Louise Bland of Ozona,
junior bridesmaid, Marilyn
McDonald, June Bunger of
Ozona and Miss Nugent. They
wore azalea pink satin sheath
dresses with full length over-
skirts of American Beauty sat-
in. Neckline of the sheaths
came to a deep V in back.
Long white kid gloves com-
plemented brief sleeves. On
their hair each wore a large
satin rose, Miss Minter's
American Beauty, the others
aza'ea pink. Thev carried cas-
cades of Rriarcliff roses with
ivy tendrils.
Rex Robert Bland was aco-
lyte.
Steven Montgomery Bland
was page, Marjorie Rebecca
Bland flower girl and her twin
brother, John William Bland,
ring bearer. The flower girl's
dress was a bouffant floor
length dress of white nylon.
She dropped rose petals from
a white net basket and her
brother carried the wedding
rings on a heart shaped cush-
ion of lace.
Groomsmen included Bill
Nix, Harold Yarnold and Ken-
nv Abraham, all of Canadian.
Ushers were Ronnie Vance of
Fo t Worth and Bobby New-
sn of Lubbock.
The bride's aunts and un-
cles, Mrs. Tandy, Mr. and Mrs.
R. L. Bland jr. of Ozona and
Mr. and Mrs. W. H. Knight,
joined Mr. and Mrs. Sayles in
hosting the wedding recep-
tion at Abilene Woman's Club.
An imported white linen
cutwork and lace cloth was
on the bride's table where a
five-branched silver candela-
brum held white butterfly
roses. Nosegays of gardenias
were at the base. Tall white
tapers in silver candelabra
lighted silver appointments.
Foursome tables in t he
Great Hall were laid with
white linen cloths. Pink pom-
poms in bud vase arrange-
ments were flanked by votive
candles which with white
candles in cathedral candle-
sticks lighted the Great Hall.
Floor baskets of white gladi-
oli and ftock were added flor-
al decor.
When the couple left for a
wedding trip to Colorado, the
bride was wearing a design-
er's suit of champagne wool.
Two large pearl buttons fas-
tened the cropped jacket
which had notched collar and
three quarter dolman sleeves.
Beige kid gloves, brown lizard
pumps and handbag and
brown mink halo hat complet-
ed her travel ensemble. She
wore a corsage of white but-
terfly roses from her bridal
bouquet.
The bride is a graduate of
Abilene High School and has
attended Texas Technological
College where she will be a
junior during the coming year.
Her majof is elementary edu-
cation. She is a member of
Zeta Tau Alpha social soror-
Pre-nuptial shower honors
Miss Janice Hardin Monday
A pre-nuptial ihower hon-
oring Miss Janice Hardin,
bride-elect of W. C. Kendall,
was held Monday afternoon
in the home of Mrs. Edward
Meek. Co-hostesses with Mrs.
Meek were Barbara Me^k,
Frederica Ellis,. Sandra Wa-
ters, Mrs. J. B. Lindley, Mrs.
Marvin Longhofer and Mrs.
H. D. McAdoo.
The honoree and her moth-
er, Mrs. Bob Hardin, were pre-
sented with corsages of white
carnations flocked in gold.
The bride-elect's colors of
white and gold were also car-
ried out in the table decora-
tions with a centerpiece of
white roses with gold-sprayed
fern on a white linen and lace
embroidered cloth. The can-
dleholders in the shape of
wedding bells held white can-
dles decorated with small
white and gold wedding bells
attached with gold ribbons.
Punch was served from a
milk glass punch bowl. Nuts,
mints and cake decorated in
white and gold were also
served.

The bridegroom is a gradu-
ate of Canadian High School
where he was a member of
National Honor Society. He
was graduated Aug. 25 from
Texas Technological College
where he received a Bachelor
of Business Administration
degree with major in indus-
trial management. At Army
ROTC commissioning exercis-
es conducted Saturday morn-
ing he received his commis-
sion as a 2nd lieutenant in
the U. S. Army Reserve Corps
and was named a Disting-
uished Military Graduate. He
was president of his class dur-
ing his junior and senior
years and received the All-
College Recognition for Lead-
ership award. He is a mem-
ber of Phi Gamma Delta so-
cial fraternity and belonged
to Scabbard and Blade, Saddle
Tramps and Interfraternity
Council.
Until reporting to Fort Ben-
jamin Harrison, Indiana, May
13, 1963, to begin two years
military service, he will be in
Management Training at
Sears, Lubbock.
After Sept. 10, the couple
will be at home at 2224 9th
St., Lubbock.
Abilene Country Club was
the scene of the rehearsal din-
ner Sunday evening. Hosts
were cousins of the bride, Mr.
and Mrs. Hal Sayles and Mr.
and Mrs. C. M. Sayles. Party
decor emphasized colors cho-
sen for the wedding. Places
were marked for approximate-
ly 40 guests at tables covered
with azalea pink cloths. White
cherubs held carnations in
shades of azalea pink and
American Beauty.
A skirted taffeta cloth was
on the punch table where a
bisque cherub supported a
green Venetian Glass bowl
filled with carnations.
Those from Canadian who
attended the wedding and re-
ception were Mrs. George Car-
ver and Frank, Miss Vera
Tepe and Glen Hostutler and
Glen H.
