Funeral rites for crash victims
at Spearman; trucker charged
A Spearman couple, William
J. McBroom, 46, and his wife,
Lillie, 44, died last Wednesday
night at Northwest Texas Hos-
pital in Amarillo of injuries
suffered when their car was
struck and crushed by a heavily-
loaded oilfield truck at the
intersection of US 83 and State
Highway 33 south of Canadian
Tuesday afternoon of last week.
Funeral services were held for
the McBrooms at the First
Assembly of God Church in
Spearman Saturday.
Their 14-year old son, Bill,
was still hospitalized at Amarillo
with severe head injuries.
Erbin Joe Sieler, 24, of Bil-
lings, Montana, driver of the
heavily-loaded semi which was
hauling oilfield equipment, was
charged in Canadian with two
counts of involuntary man-
slaughter, and was released
under $5,000 bond on each
count.

The McBroom sedan, a late-
model Ford, was southbound on
US Highway 83. a four-lane
divided highway, when it was
struck in the intersection with
State Highway 33 by the truck
owned by Getter Trucking Com-
pany of Billings. The truck hit
the McBroom car on the right
front, carrying it off the highway
and into the median where the
cab of the truck rolled over onto
the car. crushing it.
The McBrooms were rescued
from the crashed vehicle by the
emergency unit of the Canadian
Volunteer Fire Department, and
brought to Hemphill County-
Hospital by local ambulances
before being transferred to the
emergency center at Northwest
Texas Hospital in Amarillo.
The truck driver was arrested
after being treated for shock at
the hospital here.
The McBrooms are survived
by four daughters in addition to
son. Bill, and by two grand-
children. all of Spearman.

County Hospital.

Mrs. David Cook. Jim David
and Casey have returned from a
vacation in Miami and Hialeah,
Florida. Mr. and Mrs. A.B.
Fincher of Boise City. Oklahoma
accompanied them to attend the
funeral of Mrs. Cook's aunt.
Mr. and Mrs. J.D. Greene,
Mr. and Mrs. Leroy Brown and
Colby Brown were guests of the
Homer Thomases on Tuesday
for a fish fry.
Mrs. Homer Sanders attend-
ed a birthday party for her
granddaughter. Jamie Luns-
ford. in Canadian Saturday.

and Garland Thomas were in
Clinton. Oklahoma Friday to
meet their grandchildren. Miss\
and Michael Milledge, and vis-
ited with Mrs. C.H. Davenport.
