Friday evening, July lft, !«•-, was
one of those so roil:- lovely arcadian
evenings when uature, as ihe poet
says, seems wrapped In the sublimity !
of her own greatness. A time when |
all alsive wears the graudouro of a
diamond spangled canopy; when all
around is tilled with the voluptuous
breezes, and till the longing heart
with eagerness to take in the whole
situation. Such a scene is quite char-
acteristic of times in Velaseo. The
truth is a nice ¿ouiig lady once said to
the editor of Tiie Times "why didn't
they name this place Arcadia instead
of Velaseo?" It will never do to
stump an editor, thought we, and re-
plied peremptorily, why, simply be-
cause tiie founders of Velaseo never
once dreamed of what they had when
they laid out tills beautiful city on
the gulf. They were only looking
for deep water for an outlet to the
old world, they secured that and as
the gods always favor those who
diligently work uncomplainingly, all
nature seems determined to exhaust
her efforts to bless N'elasco anil make
her people liappy perpetually. Im-
pelled by these gladdening impulses,
a select crowd of pleasure seekers sal-
lied forth last Friday evening for a
pleasure sail to the beautiful Surfside
for a luxurious bath, thenc* to the
jetties and return to N'elasco. Capt.Os.
burn, Mr. Laminéis, Dr. and Mrs Jen-
kins and Miss Ida Davis constituted
the party. The sailing down the river
to Surfside (live miles) went as smooth
and merry as a marriage bell, and so
did tlie delicious hath, bul it was lat-
er that the rub trame. The crowd re-
entered the boat, and out over the

were two to one that she would drift

the perilous situation. Just then a
