Ford Sees Cities
Breaking Down
Judson Welliver in an inter-
view with Henry Ford, published
in the Reviews, quotes the fliv-
ver magnet in this way:
A few decades ago. there were
local flouring mills in the small
towns. Then came patent pro-
cesses, big mills consolidation.
The little mills were shut down.
Now they are making small flour
mill plants that will produce the
same flour, in very small estab-
lishments and we shall be re-
turning presently to the old sys-
tem of the local mill, supplying
the local market. That will cut
out another big item of waste
transportation.
The new era will see a great
redistribution of industry back
to the country. This country
has got to live in the country; in-
dustry must be taken back to
the country; small cities and
towns should supply more of
their requirements, diversify
their industries, enable local
capital to finance their business,
and thus keep it in the financial
control of the people who have
the greatest interest in its suc-
cess. Financing industry is all
wrong; the thing to do with in
dustryis to run it; under the
management of people who own
it, and who stay on the job.
Make every community as
nearly independent as possible.
The«great modern city is an ab-
normal development. It tends
to break under its own weight.
It is socially bad and economi-
cally unsound. You can see the
evidence of this, in the acute
housing problems of cities, and
in the breakdown of municipal
facilities, especially traction
systems.

How Far Is Columbus
Not So Far That the Statements of
Its Residents Cannot Be Verified.
Rather an interesting case has
been developed in Columbus.
Beingjso near by, it is well worth
publishing here. The statement
is sincere—the oroof convincing:
Mrs. G.W. Lowrey, Columbus,
Texas, says: "I suffered a
great deal from backache and
catching pains across the small
of my back and through my hips.
It was hard for me to get around
and I had considerable trouble
with severe headaches and dizzy
spells. Black specks also blur-
red my sight. My kidneys were
badly out of order p,nd acted ir-
regularly. Doan's Kidney Pills
were recommended and I ob-
tained some. Doan's gave me
good results." ^
Price 60c, at all dealers. Don't
simply ask for a kidney remedy

Two trains, packed to the roof
beams with Overland and Wil-
lys-Knight automobiles, left
Toledo last week blazing their
way to the Atlantic and Pacific
oceans. These two trains car-
ried Toledo made motor cars
valued at $1,275,000.
Railroad operating officials
sought in these trains to estab-
lish new records for the rapid
handling of freight shipments,
in the one instance from Toledo
to the Atlantic seaboard and in
the other from Toledo to the Pa-
cific coast.
The train for the east, travel-
ing over the New York Central
Lines for New York, Boston and
Philadelphia, consisted of 100
freight cars in a solid train.
Headed for San Francisco, a
train of 80 cars, carrying B90
Overland and WiUys-Kuight mo-
tor cars, left the Overland yards
with all the energies of the wes-
tern railroads bent on equaling
or bettering the record-time
made by the Southern lines early
last month in delivering a train
of 86 freight cars of Overland
automobiles to Los Angeles.
In the Atlantic coast ship-
ment, there were 615 motorcars,
representing with the included
parts shipments, a value of $875,-
000. The-f reight charges on this
100-car solid trainload amount to
more than $58,000.
There were 281 Overlands and
109 Willys-Knights in the San
Francisco shipment. They rep-
resented a value of approxi-
mately $400,000. The freight
bill for this shipment totaled
$36,500.
Five-Foot Rattler
Caught In Steel Trap
Luling, Texas, Dec. 13.—To
catch a five-foot rattlesnake in
an ordinary steel trap is an ex-
perience somewhat out of the
ordinary, but is what actually
befell Loren and R. B. Hanson,
liying north of town. The boys
had set a trap in a favorite place
for catching 'possums, and
found the big snake caught
next morning. He had seven
rattles and a button.

The readers of this paper will be
pleased to learn that there is at least
one dreaded disease that science has
been able to cure in all its stages and
that is catarrh. Catarrh being greatly
influenced by constitutional conditions
requires constitutional treatment. Hall's
Catarrh Medicine is taken internally and
acts thru the Blood on the Mucous Sur-
faces of the System thereby, destroying
the foundation of the disease, giving the
patient strength by building up the con-
stitution and assisting nature in doing its
work. The proprietors have so much
faith in the curative power of Hall's
Catarrh Medicine that they offer One
Hundred Dollars for any case that it fails
to cure. Sfend for list of testimonials.
