Thk Hock Island Railway
Co. is noted for the persistance
with which its officials try to
induce emigration and build
up (he country through which
its lines run. This company
has a thoroughly organized de-
partment for this business ~nd
has, for the past few months,
been working for Texas, the
result of which is that several
hundred substantial farmers
from Iowa,Kansas and Neb'as
ka have become citizens of the
Lone Star state. The l&st issue
of the "Western Trail," a
newspaper published in Chica
go by the Rock Island is al-
most entirely devoted to Texas,
and c^ntaias much information
as well as numerous cuts en-
graved from actual photo-
graphs, taken bjr its editor

to the democrats of Texas who
supported the Turner Hall
ticket, advising them of the
settlement made, and that in
pursuance of said settlement
no call for a state convention
will be issued by his commit-
tee, and that said committee is
dissolved. That the call of
Chairman Baker and his com
mittee is the authorized call of
the regular, united Democracy
of Texas, and it is urged upon
all members of the party to re
spond to said call in a spirit of
democratic brotherhood, and to
unite with all good democrats
in the primaries and conven-
tions in cementing the party
and promoting its success In
perpetuating the true princi-
ples of democratic government.

as being very proud of Mr.
Burch. Then Mr. Burch want
ed the judges to "play like*'
that he didn't speak, and erase
his speech from their memory
and make the decision between
Mr. Perkins and Mr. Tot Eng-
land. Of corrse the decision
was in favor of the affirmative,
and was rendered favorable to
us. We hope Mr. Perkins and
Mr. Burch will come bacfc
again for their speeches were
enjoyed beyond expression.
