Mouse Wore Diamon<l
Some women may be afraid of-some
nilce. Wit when a mouse gets civilized
and swagger enough to* run around
wearing diamond#—well, the heroine
of this story tells it, and responsibility
begins and ends with her.r7^
Miss Genevieve Allen of New York,
head of the abandonment bureau of
I>fsfcriet Attorney- Swan's office, -re*
turned from a vacation in Maine to
find a mouse cavorting on the floor of
her office with a diamond gleaming
from Its tall. _
Miss Allen realising, perhaps, that
she could never -get away with the
story"" without something resembling
proo?, caught that mouse. Whether
she did It with gas, hypnotttm or a
depth bomb ttrity sever be known, but
she got eloae enough to extract a
diamond earring-from the moose's tail
though she let the mouse get aWay
without attempting So arrfcit It for
burglary. The earring was turned
ovfer to Acting District Attorney Ban-

The regijar annual meeting of the
ahnreholders of the Merchants &
Planters: National Hank of Sherman,
Texas, will I* b<>Id at Its office in
Sherman, Texas, on. Tuesday, Janu-
ary 10, l etween (tie hours of 1
to 11 p. m. for the election of
- floosie? Refused to Crew.
On the ground that the crowing of
the rooster in her poultry run prevent-
ed School children learning their les-
sons, a Potsdam woman appeared be-
fore the local Judge charged with be-
ing, a public nuisance. Vhe woman
having declared the rooster was old
and hoarse, and that therefore his
crow could not be^4L.£?urce of distur-
bance to the school children, the judge
adjourned the case to etmble .the bint
to appear.
TJhe r<ioster, however, which came to
the*court in a^capaclty resembling^
that of a co-defendant, refused to*
crow, and the judge, after making
some remarks about the valuable loss
of legal time thus occasioned, dis-
missed the case.—North China Hefald.
