A Bridgeport tConn.) pap^r fells Its
readers that s large manufacturing
establishment In lt j city is aiding Us
employees by selling shoes and coal
toShe operatives at a reduced rate.
Listen to this-, for example:
Women's shoes, durable. Stylish and
cheap withal, are being distributed to
workers who want theni for $2 p pair.
The significance of the $2 juice Is
seen In. a comparison with ordiuary
shoe price schedules. The shoes are
sold on fsio days each week and fey-
frilL hundred pairs still remain. .
As to the coal, it Is sufficient to say
that the eoriloratlon Ik furnishing
three carloads a Meek to Its employees
at $12.50 a ton, which tfoes not strike
us as such a hiarvfl as tlie sale of
shoes at $2 a pair, hut as to this we
should weleopie further information,
says the Hartford Courant. if It Is
possible to buy shoes, at once dura Ida
and stylish at $2. the fact has gained
precious little publicity In the last
" four years, even among women, and
we should suppose that the women of
Bridgeport would be apt to mention
the fact 4o the dealers In the city.
Surely there must be men employed
by tills corporation who would be glad
to And It dealtng In footwear for them.
Inasmuchmere man will need shoes
within a month or so. at the best. Why
not sell them durable and stylish
shoes at, say, $4? We shall watch the
further development of this plan with
some Interest. 1
