The Seminary Singers
organization was founded in
1935 to afford to expanded
musical expression for students
preparing for local church
ministry. Since that time, well
over one thousand graduates of
Perkins have participated in
the Singers. The annual tours
have taken the choir into most
of the Southern and South-
western states, and as far west
as California. Two tours have
been made into Mexico. The
1973 Tour took the Singers into
the Mid-Western states. This
year's tour is into Central,
South Texas, including the Rio
Grande Valley and the Gulf
Coast. The Seminary Singers
were featured as one of the
choirs on the Protestant Hour
radio broadcast for 1972.
Dr. Carlton R. Young,
Director of the Singers, is
Professor of Church Music and
Director of the Master of
Sacred Music Program at
Perkins and for Southern
Methodist University. Dr.
Young has directed music for
four General Conferences of the
United Methodist Church, and
has served as editor of the 1966
edition of the Methodist
Hymnal.
THE MANY FACES
OF CHRISTMAS
The faces of Christmas have
many features.
They range from the joyous
look of Santa Claus spurring
in his reindeer to the wide-
eyed wonderment of boys and
girls emptying their first
Christmas stockings. They em-
brace carolers rendering the
joys of the season in song, as
well as middle-aged men and
women entranced as they peer
into the windows of beauti-
fully decorated department
stores.
Perhaps the white heard,
red cheeks and red nose of
Santa Claus best express the
Santa-ment of the season. The
legendary benefactor of chil-
dren has much in store for
boys and girls who behave, and
the hopeful looks on their
faces as they give him an on-
the-lap report of their wishes
are the rule of the Yule.
Even the face of Mickey
Mouse, a giant rubberized ver-
sion of him, travels up Fifth
Avenirt' during Macy's pre-
Christmas parade in New
York, where the season begins
after Thanksgiving. At Lin-
coln Center, youngsters and
their parents put on happy
faces as they await the annual
production of The Nutcracker
Suite.
Not all the faces of Christ-
mas are so legendary.
