Major telephone service
improvements for Rio
Grande City customers were
announced today by R. D.
Majors, Division Manager
for General Telephone
Company.
A new carrier system has
been installed between Rio
Grande City and Roma. A
carrier system is the elec-
tronic equipment necessary
to provide the talking paths
between two towns. The new-
equipment was placed in
service on August 15, 1978
and will double the capacity
for simultaneous con-
versations between the two
cities.
The new system is of the
latest design and has proven
to be very reliable. I'm sure
our customers in both cities
will enjoy the improved
quality of service.
Majors also stated that
citizens of Rio Grande City,
beginning Saturday, August
19, 1978 will have the
capability of making zero
plus long distance telephone
calls. With this new service,
you can now dial all of your
own long distance calls..You
already have One Plus
Dialing, which enables you
to dial your owi. t tat ion-to-
station long distance calls.
Zero Plus Dialing allows you
to dial person-to-person,
collect, credit card and third
number billing calls where
an operator comes in on the
line after you have dialed the
number to take rare of the
special service you want.
"The improvements are part
of an over-all plan to
continually improve
telephone service for our
customers", Majors said.
