From The Desk Of
The Fire Chief
The County has really been plagued this
past month with grass fires.
We have answered 87 alarms in
February, the shortest month of the year.
At times there were four or five calls at
the same time, which made it impossible
for the Rio Grande City Fire Department
to respond to all of them with the
equipment we now have, as the alarms
have caused considerable wear and tear to
our trucks.
I would like to thank Commissioner
Amando Pena for his assistance in getting
our Fire Truck back in operation. His
mechanics have been a great help in this
emergency.
Our other pumper that went out of
service on the evening of Feb. 25 at the
I aGuna Ranch fire, will be our of service

1984
The proposed changes in
rates will affect all the Com-
pany's 829.291 Texas

customer' classes, and are
designed to increase the Com-
pany s gross intrastate
revenues by $84,777,000. or
approximately 13.34 percent
annually

tervene or otherwise par-
ticipate in these proceedings
should notify the Commission
as soon as possible A request

Telephone
for another 10 days to 2 weeks, as the parts
had to be ordered from St. Joseph,
Tennessee.
I have been criticized by one of the
citizens of Roma for not responding to
some of the calls in their area. It is not
that we did not want to help our
neighboring city, but they have a fire truck
that does not carry the necessary
equipment to handle a fire of any
magnitude. They need 1'^ inch hose and
nozzles and a few other minor pieces.
It is beyond my comprehension for the
City of Roma to have a $36,000 fire truck
for over a year, and not be properly
equipped to use it. With a few hundred
dollars it could be equipped to handle any
large fires in the area. Having this
equipped fire truck in our area would
greatly help the efficiency of fire fighting
in both the Roma and Rio Grande City
area by working together.
