forcement by enrolling soon at an
investigator's school sponsored by
Texas University and the South
Texas Development Council.
Attending Ramirez's graduation
in Laredo were his parents, Mr
and Mrs. Rene Ramirez, hi wife,
Cynthia, and Alex W. Gabert,

Laredo Junior College Regional

speaker, Charles Borchers, former
Webb County District Attorney.
Do you know where the term
"carat" comes from? According to
"The Almanac of Investments," it is
derived from the Italian word carato,
the Arabic word qirat, and the Greek
word keration, all meaning fruit of the
carob tree. Tree pods containing
seeds were once used to balance
scales in Oriental bazaars. Since then
the word has been adopted to describe
the purity of gold and the weight of
precious metals and pearls.
