'Down On Rio Grande'
Theme Of Parade
h "Down on the Rio Grande" is the
theme for the 1985 Starr County
Youth Fair Parade scheduled for
Saturday, March 2. in Rio Grande
Qity.
■.According to Parade Chairman
Tissa Peterson, the parade will
start at 9:30 a m at the Starr
County Courthouse and will end at
Fort Ringgold, where projects in
livestock, cooking, sewing, science,
agriculture, art, crafts, and many
other areas may be viewed.
..School bands, youth clubs,
oiarching groups, bicyclists and
cjvic and church organizations are
all encouraged to take part in this
parade, which is sponsored bv the

Starr County Fair Association. An
entry fee of $5 will be charged for
floats, cars, and commercial
entries. Bands, bicycles, and
marching groups will not be
charged.
Trophies will be awarded to the
best senior and junior high school
bands, and cash prizes of $100, $60.
and $40 will be given to the winning
floats, based on theme, originality,
and workmanship.
Cars and floats should bear the
name of the community, organiza-
tion, or individual responsible for
its entry. Entries advertising or
featuring alcoholic beverages will
not be allowed Political candidates
may not campaign or advertise
their candidacy on any entry.
Participants in the Starr County
Youth Fair Queen's Contest will
ride on a car or truck in the
parade The sweetheart or repre-
sentative of any youth or adult
organization also may ride in a
vehicle to represent their club.
Parade entries should report to
the courthouse steps at 8:30 a.m. to
receive an entry number and
instructions for lining up. The entry
fee may be paid at that time.

vocational students to a Vocational
Leadership Conference in Harl-
ingen this Saturday, also. This
conference will help prepare the
vocational students for their dis-
trict meet in March.
Ringgold Jr. High will hold a
Science Fair and a Band Concert
on Feb. 28. The Science Fair is
under the direction of Mr. Ruben
Lopez, Mrs. K. McGee. Mr. Roel
Gonzalez, and Mr. Yamil Yunez; it
will be held in the Multi-Purpose
Center starting at 6 p m.
The band concert is under the
direction of Mr R. Elizondo and
Mr. Rudy Barrera. The seventh
grade band and the eighth grade
band will both perform; the per-
formance will be held at the
auditorium and will start at 7:00
p.m. Door prizes will be given at
both events.
For the first time ever, adults
will be eligible to compete in Arts
and Crafts at the 1985 Youth Fair
The rules for competition in arts
and crafts are listed below.
(I) Competition will be open to
Starr County residents only. Part-
time residents (30 days or more*
are eligible. (2) Not more than two
entries shall be allowed per
category or sub-category per exhib-
itor.
(3) Each exhibit shall be
accompanied by an entry fee of Si.
(4) Categories shall be designate^
upon receipt of entries and discr

(5) Should an exhibit qualify for
more than one category, the
exhibitor shall have the privilege to
place the item in the category of
his choice. (6) Entries will be
accepted from 1:30 p.m. to 6 p.m.
on Friday. March 1 at the Multi-
purpose Center. No exceptions.
(7) All entries must remain on
display until removal time, which
is Saturday, March 2. No excep-
tions. (8) Judging will begin at 6:30
p.m.Fri ay, March 1
(9) Definition of items:
DIVISION: marked by capital
letters; CATEGORY: marked hy
numbers; SUB-CATEGORY:
marked by lower-case letters. (10)
A first, second, and third place
ribbon will be awarded to each
category (unless there are sub-
categories, in which case ribbons
will be awarded to them).
(II)A rosette will be awarded to
each division with three or more
entries in said division. (12) A
grand champion and reserve grand
champion trophy will be awarded
to the top two winners.
(13) All liability and re-
sponsibility and responsibility for
loss or breakage of exhibit and
articles, while en route to. from, or
while at the show, is assumed by
the exhibitors. The Adult Arts and
