The bridegroom-elect is the son
of Mr. and Mrs. Horacio Ozuna,
Sr., of Rio Grande City. He
graduated from Texas A&I
University and * is presently
employed by the Brooks County
ISD in Falfurrias.
The bride-elect is the daughter ol
Mr. and Mrs Daniel G. Garza, Jr.,
of Falfurrias. She graduated from
Falfurrias High School and is
presently attending Texas A&I
University in Kingsville.

All-American Scholar
The USAA has established the
All-American Scholar Award
Program in order to offer deserved
recognition to superior students
who excel in the academic
disciplines. The All-American
Scholar must earn a 3.3 or better
grade point average.
Only Scholars selected by a
school instructor, counselor or
other qualified sponsor are accepted.
These scholars arc also eligible for
other awards given by the USAA.

Starr County Food Pantry
Report For July
The Starr County Food Pantry
has issued its financial and
operations report for July 1990.
The Starr County Food Pantry is
composed of a group of federal
volunteers, community volunteers
and a volunteer director. The
Pantry's purpose is to feed families
in emergency situations. The
Pantry houses the emergency food
box program, FEMA (Federal
Emergency Management Agency
Service), VISTA (Volunteers in
Service to America), the Salvation
Army, and the second-hand store.
The Food Pantry received the
following financial donations: First
Baptist Chuich, 530; Primcra
Iglesia Bautista, S30; Grulla
Nutrition Center, S7; Roma
Nutrition Center, S 10.75; Food
Pantry Cannisters, $25.30; Book
Fair Fundraiser, $19.49; Fundraiser,
S58; B.B.Q. Plates, S271.03;
Clothes Sale, S29.13; Aluminum
Can Sale, S3.87; Coca Cola
commission, S12.48; M.D.A.,
S47.66; VFW Post No. 8526,
$500; Money transferred from the
grant account, S958.60.
Total income for the month
amounted to S2003.31. The
previous balance of $196.24 and
total expenses of S1678.15 resulted
in a present checkbook balance ol
S521.40.
The Starr County Food Pamry
purchased 1367 pounds of food at
.05 a pound for a total of $68.35. A
total of SI53.33 was paid on
account, bringing the total to
$221.68.
Valley Mart donated one case of
tomato sauce valued at SI7.44. El
Chaparral donated one case of lideo
valued at $12.
The following stations made
donations of S10 each: Rio
Shamrock, Fort Ringgold Texaco
and Kramer's Quick Stop.
Ringgold Primary Principal Mrs.
Pena has been selected as the
Pantry's Volunteer of the Month.
She was chosen for giving the
Pantry an opportunity of having a
summer book fair on July 3.
Volunteers collected $20 from this
event. The Pantry thanks Mrs. Pena
for providing their organization this
opportunity to help the less
fortunate.
Donations of clothes, aluminum
cans and fire wixxl were provided by
the following: Mr. Eleazar Alanis,
Mr. Jacinto and Juanita Trevino,
Mr. Juan and Margarita Garza, Mr.
and Mrs. Noel Guerra, Miss
Veronica Accvedo, Mrs. Diana
Rodriguez, Mr. Ansenio Gonzalez,
Rev. Roland Ouclleile, Salineno
Nutrition Center, Mr. and Mrs.
Ricardo Garza.
A total of 29 families were served
during the month by the Starr
County Food Pantry with five days
supply of food Maria Guadalupe
Cantu, Irene Doyle, Baldemar Lara,
and Jose Matilde Espinoza arc
currently serving as federal
volunteers for the VISTA program.
A total of 546.05 hours were
worked by the Pantry as follows:

Pcna, 125; Shane Vela, 95.5;

The Starr County Food Pantry is
accepting donations of aluminum
cans, clothes, furniture, or anything
else that persons wish to donate to
the Pantry. Persons should call the
Pantrv to pick up the items, or drop
the Hems at 300 North Avasolo
Street. Interested persons should
call the Pantry at 487-2585,

Garza.
Farm Bureau Sponsors
Local Fireman
The Texas Farm Bureau and the
Starr County Farm Bureau jointly
sponsored a volunteer fireman to
enroll at the 1990 TFB Fireman
Training School that was held at
Texas A&M University in College
Station Iroin July 22-27.

Starr County Farm Bureau
secretaries Zulcma O. Garza and
Felicitas T. Longoria of Rio Grande
City attended the 1990 Office
Secretaries Conference from June
27-29 in Austin at the Hyatt
Regency Hotel.
During the weather, secretaries
received instruction on various
Farm Bureau office procedures and
heard presentations from several
staff members and guest lecturers
Sessions were held on health and
dental programs, insurance .sales and
service, the TASCO program and
tiie newsletter service.
