there is a bright future for this area.
He said, "I would like to sec local
officials join forces with state and ,
federal representatives to influence
Mexico to consider including the
stretch of road between Camargo
and Pena Blanca in the
highway-widening project from
Monterrey to Reynosa."
Muniz believes carrying out this
project would make Starr County a
major port of entry between Mexico
and the United States and would
generate new businesses.
Muniz stated, "I realize we are
experiencing some growing pains,
but things are better today than they
were a few years ago, and I believe
that things can only get better in
the future."
The House of Raphael Restaurant
in Rio Grande City is currently
showing an exhibit on "Guerrero
Viejo", formerly "Revilla."
The project is a traveling exhibit
largely consisting of photographs
by Rose Trevino. Trevino, based in
Laredo, is steward for the office of
the State Archcologist.
Trevino is also Regional Director
for the Texas Archeological
Society, actively involved with the
Texas Historical Commission for
South Texas, President of the Webb
County Archeological Society,
Vice-Chairman of the Webb
County Historical Commission,
and appointed by the Governor as
State Commissioner for the "Old
San Antonio Road Preservation
Commission."
Trevino indicated that the exhibit
was first displayed in Laredo and
was on display for three weeks at
the Citizens State Bank of Roma.
From Rio Grande City, the
exhibit will travel to the University
of Texas-Pan American and the
Brownsville Museum. The exhibit
is scheduled for future viewing at
Texas A&I University in
Kingsvillc and in Eagle Pass.
Trevino said, "I want to raise
consciousness about the necessity
of preserving historical structures
along the border. These exhibits
provide the opportunity for citizens £
to provide much information and
they do that. These exhibits raise
public awareness."
Trevino noted that "Borderlands
Cultural Resources Inc." is
attempting to document historic-
structures along both sides of the
Texas-Mexico border.
The exhibit on Guerrero began
showing on Friday, Dec. 11 at the J
House of Raphael in Rio Grande
City. Trevino indicated that the
exhibit will be on display in Rio
Grande City for a minimum of one
week and quite possibly two weeks.
Trevino said, "The exhibit
consists mainly of photographs,
with some samples of construction
materials like limestone and

sandstone. The exhibit is a
photographic documentary."

An Open Letter
to the community
To the neighborhood of Mrs.
Carrion:
Good news and bad news. I want
to let the neighborhood know that
for 29 years, I have celebrated with
a Christmas pinata for the kids in
the neighborhood.
This year, I am really sorry with
all my heart because I won't be able
to do La pinata because just a few
weeks ago, I got out of the hospital
and I am very sick.
But if I get to live until next
Christmas, 1 will continue with my ')
traditions. On Christmas Eve from
7 to 10 p.m., there will be hot
drinks, snacks and mcnudo. You are
welcome to come and wish with me
a Merry X-Mas.
Thank you
Mrs. Miguel Carrion.
