Vela indicated, "I think the
majority of hunters are local. We
have a lot of hunters from Houston,
Beaumont, the state of Louisiana,
San Antonio, Corpus Christi, and
the rest of the Valley. Many
hunters from Houston have been
coming to Starr County for years."
The game warden emphasized,
"We're expecting more hunters this
year because there are more
regulations on hunting in Mexico.
Some popular hunting areas in
Mexico have actually been closed,
and other areas are regulated more."
Vela noted, "There will be eight
game wardens working in Starr
County this weekend besides L^e
two local game wardens, and there
will be six game wardens next
weekend."
Vela noted that hunting rules and
regulations remain the same as in
recent years. Hunters need a plugged
shotgun that holds no more than
three shells, a valid hunting license
and a whitewing stamp. There must
be one fully feathered wing on each
bird killed.
The total number of whitewings
and mourning doves killed must not
be greater than 10. Hunters can
shoot up to a limit of five
mourning doves. Vela noted that
the aggregate limit of 10 birds
could possibly be all whitewing
doves.

thought, word, or deed during this, our most difficult of
times.

Notes from the office of the
County Clerk

By OMAR GARZA
County Clerk
We arc finally moving toward the
onset of a more fall-like weather
pattern.
Our office has been extremely
busy due to much work, employee
vacations, and illnesses. The
County Clerk's office thanks the
public for your patience and
understanding.
As we move toward fall, we are
very grateful to all of the
hard-working people in our office
and the county staff. County
workers are at times criticized by a
few, but Starr County has a very
competent and hard-working group
of people.
We try to assist each oilier from
office to office as the need arises.
Only when we all work together
will we be as efficient as we can be.
Work among the County Clerk's
staff is also shared. We could not
function if it were not so, due to
our heavy workload.
The Nov. 2, 1993 general
election is near. At that time we
will have an opportunity to once
again voice our opinion on about
16 different amendments. They are
too numerous to mention
individually, but suffice it to say
that voting for or against them will
have an impact on everyone's way
of life.
We have copies (of the
amendments) and can make them
available to anyone who requests
them through our office.
In addition, the official city
election for Rio Grande City will
be conducted at the same time. Up
for election will be the mayor
position and five city aldermen
positions. The candidates will be
running for the specific positions of
mayor and aldermen.
The County Clerk's office is
responsible for conducting the
election. Forms to file for a place
on the ballot for the Rio Grande
City election are available at our
office and can be picked up any day

City election, please contact our

The success of Rio Grande City
as a city will be directly
proportional to the involvement of
its citizens in the election process.
Our office encourages everyone to
make your choice on Nov. 2, 1993
on the amendments and the Rio
Grande City officials election. Wc
will publish other pertinent
deadlines, dates and other(
information as the election nears.
As we approach fall, let us not
forget to be thankful for a very
good year. The children are now
back in school, and most are glad to
be there. Do not forget to thank
those who are most responsible for
helping to educate our young
people: the teachers, administrator? |
support personnel and school board
members.
All of these people spend untold
numbers of hours working to insure
that our children receive the best
education possible. During these
times, our children spend as much
time in school as they do at home
and in some instances more time,
therefore, we must trust that their £ | £
time at school is quality time just
as it is at home.
We hope that you enjoyed our
column this month. We will visit
with you next month on some
interesting aspects of our office
operations and our way of life.
