The Rattler Class of '54
celebrated their 40th anniversary
with a bang recently in San
Antonio.
Class members in charge of the
event were Cecilio Rodriguez,
Evelyn Kramer, Sabina Saenz,
Santos Coy, Baldemar Nichols, and
Irene Garza Stach.
One class member said, "It was
iike all of us were still in school. It
all started with an evening party on
Friday night at Baldemar and
Martha's house. Menudo, tortillas,
chips, all sorts of dips, and drinks
were served.
"Class members started out
reminisencing their days back at
good old glory: Rio Grande City
High School. Mr. and Mrs.
Roberto Chapa and Mr. and Mrs.
Cleto Villarreal were there to make
sure nothing was forgotten.
"Saturday night we all had a big
dinner and got together at the Our
Lady of Grace Parish Hall at the
Madonna Room and again if it had
not been for Father Jerry, who also
joined to recall our CCD days and
class fun. Without him we could
have never remembered anything.
"Class members went back to
their good and bad days and told the
group all that had been
accomplished one way or another.
A social hour followed and
everyone got to visit with one
another.
"Peggy Bass Albin had fixed a
yearbook of all memorabilia and a
place mat with a graduation picture
of each class member and the
activities they participated in
throughout the years of school.
"During the evening, a moment
of silence was asked for Irma
Ramirez Chapa, the only classmate
that is deceased.
"On Sunday morning, Father
Jerry said mass at Rodolfo and
Sabina's house. After mass, the
group enjoyed menudo, chorizo con
huevos and bean tacos, and all sores
of cakes and sweet breads. We wci
all so happy to have gotten together
that we fell we needed to get
together more often. Eduardo (Lalo)
Hinojosa offered to head the next
class reunion in Corpus Christi."
Members came to San Antonio
from Washington, D.C., Corpus
Christi, Mission, Sharyland,
Houston, Galveston, Rio Grande
City, Roma, Temple, Irving,
Haversee, California; and Austin.
