Two debutantes presented

Order of the Alhambra has
announced two Valley girls who
were scheduled to bow as debutantes
on Dec. 30 at its traditional
Christmas Presentation Ball at
McAUen Civic Center.
Presented as Misses were Nadia
Hcrlinda Guerra and Kiesha Marie
Minyard.
Miss Guerra is the daughter of
Hector M. Guerra and Teresa
Canales and the granddaughter of
Sir Noble and Mrs. Rafael A.
Guerra where they attend Sl Anne's
Catholic Church in Linn.
Nadia is presently a junior at
Marion Heights Academy in
Ferdinand, Indiana where she is a
member of the Peer Ministry. She
participates in horseback riding,
forensic club, Student Council
representative, dance committee,
class official, melodettcs, playing
highlandcr, Softball, service projects
for community charity, S.A.D.
(students against drinking) and
environmental committee.
Nadia recently participated with a
group of students from her school
during the Thanksgiving holidays
in a science excursion in Australia
and received extra credit for her
studies. It was an educational
opportunity she will never forget.
In junior high she attended
Brewster School in Linn. She was a
cheerleader and was involved in
band and track.
Nadia took dancing for several
years with Doria Avila and
performed in the Nutcracker. She
was also a student for Bob Reed's
Gymnastic Aero Sports where she
competed and received various
medals and trophies.
Nadia is presently a member of
the Hidalgo County Cotillion Club
and Edinburg Sub-Debs.
She was also a member of the
Linn-San Manuel 4-H Club and
participated in Food and Nutrition
and received first place awards.
Her hobbies include traveling and
spending time with friends.
Nadia's future plans are to go to
college and pursue her interests in
design.
Miss Minyard is the daughter of

Mr. and Mrs. Bill Minyard and the
granddaughter of Sir Noble and
Mrs. Jose R. Alamia of Edinburg.
They attend St. Joseph Catholic
Church where she is a lector and
Eucharist Minister and a member of
the Junior Catholic Daughters of
Amcrica.
She is presently a senior at
Edinburg High School and is ranked
number four in her class. She is
secretary for the National Honor
Society and National Spanish
Honor Society, Student Council,
Vice-President of the Key Club and
Who's Who Among Students.
Keisha was invited last summer
to the University of Texas at
Austin to the Honor Colloquim and
was a representative for Girls Suite.
She is presently taking G/T and AP
courses and is a National Merit
Scholar semi-finalist.
She is active in drama and has
had several roles in Edinburg High
School drama productions,
participates in U.I.L. One Act Play
competition, and received
Honorable Mention to the All-Star
Cast.
Kiesha has been dancing with
South Texas Dance Theatre for five
years where she has danced in
productions such as the Nutcracker
and Giselie.
In junior high she attended St.
Joseph Catholic School where she
was valedictorian.

She studied piano for five years
under the direction of Susan Hicky
of Edinburg.
She is a member of the Hidalgo
County Cotillion Club and is
vice-president for the Edinburg
Sub-Debs. Kiesha's hobbies include
dancing and playing the piano.
Miss Minyard's future plans are
to study government. She has
applied to several schools in the
East, the University of Texas at
Austin and Rice in Houston.

City of Roma receives total of
$2041 in charitable bingo fees
(AUSTIN) - Charitable Bingo
prize fees for the third quarter of
1994 totalled $2,041 for local
government in Starr County, Nora
Linares, Executive Director of the
Texas Lottery Commission, said
today.
The allocations cover prize fees
paid by Charitable Bingo players in
Starr County for July, August and
September of this year. Cities and
counties that have imposed the
local-option fee receive a quarterly
payment equal to 5 pcrcent of the
prizes won by Bingo players in
their jurisdictions.
The Lottery Commission this
month allocated the following prize
fees among Starr County uniLs of
government: Roma Los Saenz,
$2,041.

$218,564 to Dallas County. The

nearly $2.7 million in prize fees
allocated to Texas cities and

$1,430,503 in prize fees, and 127
